Your favorite noses (and why)

... @Stardust23 Oh wow, you have a true favorite! There's something satisfying in that, and I bet it's nice to know you'll likely love other things Daniela does so you can follow and sample with confidence. @Ringtale I am super fussy about vanilla too! I wish I had a hack for it like you do, knowing that if a specific perfumer handles it you won't mind it. I feel like I am always stumbling around in the dark, risking it whenever I sample something with a vanilla note.

... @Tealight10 oh Liz Moores is a good one! Anubis is my partner's signature scent (and I like it a lot too).

... @Wusubi - oh gosh, thanks for the lovely and detailed breakdown of some great noses! I was a little sad my top results based on my collection didn't include any women, so I'm glad you highlighted some good ones. I knew Cecile Zarokian does a lot of work for Amouage , for example, but didn't know there was another woman who featured prominently in the works of the house. I also love cumin so I am definitely going to look into Karine Vinchon-Sphener more. Very cool!

... Relatively new so hopefully this thread is categorized in the right place.... I LOVE that the collection section of Parfumo will calculate my top noses based on what I own 🥰. I've always wanted to do this manually but the task felt too gargantuan. Problem solved! So I'm starting this thread to share my top noses and why I like their work. Hoping others will chime in and do the same! My top 3 comprise of a 3-way tie between the following (owning 6 bottles from each): 🏆 Antonie Lie 🏆 Why I love him : I listened to an interview where he said current philosophy on formulation is to pair exquisite naturals with the right synthetics to enhance and compliment the former. This is exactly what I like to see. I also love that he is an independent perfumer (not contracted to any of the big formulation houses) and is willing to do compelling work for indie brands and briefs that catch his fancy creatively. Works I love : The entire house of ERIS is impeccable. I also think he can do amazing things with rose (see "Eau de Protection / Rossy de Palma | Etat Libre d'Orange" and "Bed of Roses | Maison Sybarite" ) 🏆 Euan McCall 🏆 Why I love him: Generally inspired by botanicals and lesser known vegetation from his native Scotland, and has a flair for wildly inventive and totally unique formulation. Works I love: His personal brand Jorum Studio does incredibly quirky and entirely singular scents. I own several bottles, but even when I find the scents too strange to own, I always enjoy sampling virtually everything he comes out with. He's also proven he can work in a more refined style (though sometimes no less challenging!) through his scents for Senyoko that fly largely under the radar. 🏆Marc Antoine Corticchiato 🏆 Why I love him: A little in the vein of Euan McCall, though Marc precedes him, he often draws inspiration from less prestigious plants that are neglected from other perfumer's palettes. His blends are a little less quirky and more mature though. And can we talk about RANGE😲🤩?!?! His personal house Parfums d'Empire has so many well regarded scents in all different genres that have won love and acclaim over the years. Works I love: Before PdE he did amazing stuff for the long defunct (and criminally under-known) La Parfumerie Moderne . I own "Années Folles | La Parfumerie Moderne" , "Cuir X | La Parfumerie Moderne" , and "Désarmant | La Parfumerie Moderne" . And he also did the cult neo-classic "Œillères | Roberto Greco" 🏅 Honorable Mentions right on their heals, 5 bottles each from... 🏅 Christopher Sheldrake - Lutens obvs, but also "Rauque | Roberto Greco" Olivier Pescheux - Diptyque baby!

Best Artistic niche incense fragrance?

|
Perfumes by Note, Accord, Genre
... Incense is my #1 love! I will hold off from spamming you with my entire list, and instead narrow it down to the "artistic niche" I am loving the most lately (and is under the radar). "Samharam | Arte Profumi" by Arte Profumi goes one step beyond the sort of thin Catholic liturgical incense vibe that was really popular in the earlier 2000s by adding a more depth and texture to the overall profile. The result is a chewier and more full bodied incense, without totally leaving the church behind - while also not going into the incense/vanilla beast mode near gourmands that are currently hot today. I highly recommend sniffing this if you can. It's lovely

Fragrances improving with time?

... I haven't experienced this to any great degree, with the exception of a fragrance I have with a few natural patchouli oils included in the mix. It's a bit richer and deeper now than when I first bought it, I think because of the aging of the patch elements. Also, my older bottle "Chypre Palatin | Parfums MDCI" has darkened, I think that's the vanilla but not certain. On the annoying side, I have had a scent or two with thick resins gunk up the atomizers after sitting on the shelf for a few months (one was "L'incendiaire | Serge Lutens" by Lutens - not a cheap fragrance!). I can no longer spray that one and have to dip dabbers into it to use, which is enough of a hassle that I don't bother most of the time. Still smells good though.

What are YOUR favourite patchoulis?

Perfumes by Note, Accord, Genre
... "Tempo | Diptyque" - dusty and not dank, a patchouli with mate "Ramble On | Fūm" - full throated multi-patch that gets better with age, great indie find "Battaniye | Pekji" - lovely patch dry-down with the additional elements of a little smoke and wool "Misfit | Arquiste" - if you like a patch with amber, this one is perfect "Patchouli Intense / Patchouli Homme (Eau de Parfum) | Nicolaï / Parfums de Nicolaï" - not just for the boys, rich and spicy, $ "Patchouly / Patchouli (Eau de Parfum) | Mazzolari" - controversial one, patch with pissy animalics "Patchouly | Profumum Roma" - a reference patchouli with a lovely choco cake element (tho not gourmand)

... Jorum Studio is totally unique! Lots of oddballs for sure, and so much fun to sample. They are carried at enough places you can get samples without TOO much trouble. Based in Scotland I like their more approachable scents like "Arborist | Jorum Studio" , "Rose Highland | Jorum Studio" , "Paradisi / Psychoterratica II | Jorum Studio" Also I say "wearable" only relative to others in the line, they are still beyond the bell curve of crowd pleasing for sure. And I've highly enjoyed sampling everything even when I don't buy a bottle - his works are unlike anyone else.

... If you want a dark rose on a budget, I quite enjoy the discontinued "Nirvana Rose | Elizabeth and James" - it used to be available widely at retailers like TJ Maxx, but I bought mine a few years ago and can't attest to if the supply has dried up by now

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members

Parfumo Community
... If anyone wants to properly delete their Fragrantica account rather than just log out indefinitely, here's how I did it about a year ago. (At that time there was no direct way to delete a profile, dunno if that's changed but I suspect not.) I changed my profile picture to a simple graphic that read "Let's Leave Fragrantica!" - then I made a forum post encouraging people to ditch the platform with me and listed a few top grievances. BOOM - admins deleted my account within 24 hours. Problem solved!😜 Like many people here, I finally got sick of the pop-up ads and the "free speech for admins, but censorship for users" AKA "no politics, except for admin politics" hypocrisy. This is actually my first Parfumo post! I am a 10+ year-old Basenotes user, but that platform is dying a slow death it seems so I decided to compliment my activity there by also joining here. The Parfumo phone app actually works, so that's a big plus.
