... Looks like I have been posting for some time and never introduced myself. My name is Ivo, from Portugal. I've been addicted to perfumes since I remember. I used to "steal" my mother's perfumes when I was a kid since I felt they were much more complex than the "man" perfumes my father used to wear. Curiously my aunt (mother's sister) has been working in a perfume shop for more than 20 years and I know I will always get something new on my birthday or Christmas. Lately I've been discovering a lot through decants I bought from the community here. Hopefully I will keep getting new ones.

... Gym day with "Supremacy Collector's Edition | Afnan Perfumes". Before going to the gym I had to deliver some packages at a service point. Looks like the lady there didn't like it too much. "Your perfume is a bit too sweet, right?". I told her it was not my favorite but it's enough to the gym 😅

Lattafa perfumes - hit or miss for you?

... My first blind buy was "Khamrah / خمرة | Lattafa / لطافة" and I loved it. I don't wear it so often because it's summer here, but I am sure I will be back to it during the winter. For the hot weather I got "Opulent Dubai | Lattafa / لطافة" and I was not disappointed (blind buy too). I don't care if they make dupes, as long as I like the scent and at least these two were good ones. I don't remember trying others so I can't say much more.

... I would recommend "The Ghost in the Shell | Etat Libre d'Orange" too. I love anime and the cyberpunk vibes and loved this fragrance. The mix of realism and synthetic, the "fake skin" vibes and that cyborg metallic cleanliness.

What's the fragrance that got you into this hobby?

... I always liked perfumes since one of my aunts work in a perfume shop. Unfortunately the place only sells designer brands so I got tired of those "same" scents and decided to try something different. Did a quick research on arabic perfumes and (of course) I found Lattafa and the super known "Khamrah" (I had no idea about what a dupe was). I blind bought it and loved the vibe. Got quickly addicted and got some other bottles from ME brands till I started buying decants from niche brands (mostly through Parfumo). Then I found out that one friend has been learning perfumary and launched his first fragrance last July. Nowadays I have been sharing ideas with him while discovering new stuff here and there (and mostly through decants).

... Got "The Ghost in the Shell | Etat Libre d'Orange" specially because I love Anime. It is not my favorite style of fragrance but I've been loving it due the "ultra clean" vibe and it is kinda comforting.

... That's a cool story and I like your username too. I am a huge fan of Akira ahah. My friend's perfume has a note called "money bills" and he explained it is just marketing has the perfume's name is "Água do Crime" (Water of Crime). He is a portuguese rapper (very talented) and he has the song with the same name (and music video where the perfume shows up). So, the money bills is just marketing to represent one of the human crimes, the greed of money. Next week I will be visiting his small lab and it will be a good experience to start learning how everything happens.

... Thanks for the input. From what I talked with my friend yesterday, he said it would be good to go meet him in the lab and smell a lot of the ingredients and then some accords. That way I will slowly learn how some combinations work and how those translate to the "notes". I need a lot of training since I am just starting and it's good to have different kind of feedback to be aware of how others will perceive the fragrances, through notes, formulas or even after smelling the final results.

... I really appreciate your feedback. I realized the notes are more about the "marketing" and the story telling the house wants to tell then the smell itself. It will always depend on the ingredients/accords and how they blend and work together. It will be a long path, searching, studying and trying. But I have to say I am really excited and curious.

... I was wondering if you can just imagine the smell through words and notes. I am really new into this new amazing perfume world so I've been studying a lot of different notes, houses, concepts, etc. Already bought some samples/decants to test some of the stuff I am curious about. Meanwhile I can't stop thinking about learning about making perfumes (I have a friend doing it for 2 years and I am going to his first release today) so I decided to test some ideas. From the concepts to the formulas and notes. Let me share the notes from one of those ideas, to see what you can imagine from this: Fragrance Profile: Sensual, animalic, sacred, provocative Top Notes: Black pepper, cumin, juniper Heart Notes: Castoreum, leather, incense Base Notes: Black vanilla, ambergris, civet, musk This is just one initial idea and I don't know if I ever will try it. Let me know what you imagine from this. It might be funny.
