Weekly Scent Discussion #14: Strange notes, just a gimick?
Insense

Perfumes by Note, Accord, Genre
... Sleuth: Sleuth: Insense: a realistic note of shower curtain! LOL! I just bought a new one, I have to sniff it now :D Well, my plastic shower curtain is apparently made of PEVA (poly ethylene-vinyl acetate), it smells of the plastic of an inflatable pool for small children. Do you smell that in Room 237 too? A bit so, yes, but the note is surrounded by a much more complex set of notes. I prefer to associate it to the smell of the Istambul Hamams :)

... Cryptic: Maybe "Room 237" is supposed to smell like the hotel room in "The Shining" where the ghost of the naked lady rose up out of the bathtub and tried to strangle the little boy? Brrr... Yes, that was the inspiration for this perfume upon Bruno's words! And I think he succeeded!

...Bruno Fazzolari is creating innovative and very beautiful perfumes, with an artistic twist. In Lampblack he has the accord of ink, but what it reminds us is the ancient smell of petrol lamps. And in Room 237, there is a realistic note of shower curtain! Very very scaring but strangely inviting.

Weekly Scent Discussion #9: How do you love your rose?
Insense

Perfumes by Note, Accord, Genre
...Actually I became a huge fan of the combo of rose with oud, being my preferred Dior's Oud Ispahan and Montale's Black Aoud. Anyway, rose is for me always a plus in other perfumes: for instance, I think my beloved Egoiste from Chanel, although a sandalwood centered perfume, would not be the same without the rose in it. The same goes for Versace's The Dreamer or Guerlain's Habit Rouge.

Weekly Scent Discussion #6: Labels of Men vs Woman and you
Insense

...My nickname was inspired by Givenchy's Insensé, said to be a floral for men. Let me say that I consider it very masculine, and I don't think a woman could pull it off, although in those days it was seen as too feminine :) In that time, men were switching to aquatics as well as unisex from Calvin Klein. And Insensé got lost in a dark night for masculine perfumery. May I also add that one of my preferred perfumes is Mugler's Angel? And that I have it instead of A-Men? Angel is the best feminine for men. I just said it. The best masculine for women? Please accept my suggestion: look at Dior's Eau Sauvage, wear it and become the most incredible sexy goddess in the night party!

...Hi, ScentFan. I'm not surprised at all. Oud Ispahan is my most complimented perfume, by far :)

My current signature
...Oud Ispahan, as I wrote in my review, became the closer I have been to my Holy Grail. So, I sign below your words on this fragrance. But I love others too: Eau Noire is an excellent example of how lavender can be blended with immortelle and become greedy (I made a short review of this one, too). Ambre Nuit is an erotic amber, quiet and comfy, beautiful on a woman's skin. And Leather Oud is another great take on the demand of a more westerner and sophisticated solution for oud. Do I prefer it to Montale's Aoud Cuir d'Arabie? Not at all in this case, here I keep my fidelity to the latter, rougher and skankier, as leather needs to be for my taste! Dior's craftsmanship is a reference and many niche brands should take a lesson watching the masters.

Weekly Scent Discussion #4: Caron, your thoughts

The masculine perspective
...From the male side, I love all I have: Le 3eme Homme, which I pair with Insensé from Givenchy as the best ever androgynous for men, Pour Un Homme, the benchmark for a lavender-vanilla combo inspiring the gorgeous A Taste of Heaven from By Kilian, and Yatagan, dark forest in a bottle, so close to nature, precursor of so many modern niches. The former is my preferred and in my top ten. I bought all 2 years ago, so I never smelled the vintages, but that is an advantage, so I can enjoy them all with no regrets. There is nothing like those: smelling expensive although being so cheap nowadays. I concur on all your points about the house of Caron mentioned above.

...I have a 13 ml mini of Pontevecchio Colonia Massima for men. I bought it because of the memories of my italian trips it evoked on me (I just wrote a short review, in case you would like some more details). The other one I sampled is the recently released Rudis. This one is outstanding, although difficult. Boozy, bloody, the scent of hell. You should try it (if it was not so expensive or if there was a 30 ml bottle available, it would become part of my collection).

Bogue Maai
...I am waiting for a 30 ml of Bogue's Maai. It was my most expensive blind buy. I thought I would never blind buy again (I didn't the last 2 years). Will I win this bet or not?
