The Old One speaks to the Young One
You could describe this strange fragrance by describing the song Old One, by Finnegan Tui.

The lyrics are deeply evocative: a man calls out to the Old One, asking him to remind him that he is indeed the animal who dances for the dawn, feeling he is losing his connection to what he truly is.
He wonders if there are others like him, who, hearing the thunder roll, rush into the rain.

The lament becomes haunting: the narrator feels that something is wrong, that he no longer knows the names of the animals gathering around the flame.
And this despair deepens when he realizes that the world he longs to return to is the very one he is destroying.

Panic rises — is he the enemy?
Then a deep voice echoes, telling him to slow down.
And indeed, everything slows.

The voice continues, addressing the Young One.
It explains that yes, he doesn’t have much time left, but one day, he will become a melody.
And until then, he will remain the animal who dances for the dawn.

Melinka is that command to slow down.
To remember the forest — its raw, simple beauty — evoking the Chilean town of Melinka, sadly known for deforestation, railway exploitation, and whale hunting.

This fragrance opens with heavy, realistic woods, moss, and incense, yet remains light thanks to the maté.
It leaves a solemn impression — one of appreciation and respect for past acts: exploitation, deforestation.
But above all, through a note of optimism, it expresses a return to the source.

A photorealistic impression of lumber
You cut a fresh chunk of lumber out from the woods and brought it with you everywhere you go. You took the tree’s aura and adopted it as your own. A photorealistic impression of lumber. The incense and the mate help soften it a bit and the labdanum gives some warmth and helps cut a bit on the raw greenness of the Guaitecas cypress, without it ever losing protagonism.

The evolution of the natural components of this smell is a bit difficult to grasp. Often it seems like it might have evaporated, but you can find yourself smelling it again a while after. A smell to become one with the forest, very unique. A bit too naturalistic and straightforward for my taste but I recognize it is very well done.

Olfactory Reforestation in Patagonia
It is a story with a problematic background that the fragrance "Melinka" from the Chilean house 432 Wild Botanic Perfumes evokes: The story of the development of the South American continent through the railway, linked as everywhere with the expulsion and decimation of indigenous populations and the exploitation of nature. Felipe Arnold Westhoff Rodhius, a Lithuanian immigrant of German descent, arrived in the mid-19th century on behalf of the Peruvian railway company Ferrocarril Central Andino to the Guaitecas archipelago off the coast of Patagonia. His mission: to organize railway sleepers for the construction of the railway line between Callao and Lima. The wooded islands had large stocks of Chilean river cedar (Pilgerodendron uviferum, actually belonging to the cypress family and locally referred to as Guaitecas cypress - Cyprés de las Guaitecas), which were ideally suited for this purpose. Westhoff led the industrial logging and processing and founded the place Melinka in 1860, originally as the administrative seat of the company he managed, naming it after his sister. Today, Melinka is the administrative center of the Guaitecas municipality with around 1300 inhabitants. The Guaitecas cypress still exists here, but its stocks have been severely depleted due to overexploitation. In even earlier times, the place that was later to be named Melinka by a timber baron was called Puerto Arenas by whalers. Their impact on whale stocks off the coast was no better than that of the timber industry on the forest stocks on the islands.

The third creation in the "7 Mestizos" series, although it bears the name "Melinka," is certainly not a tribute to Felipe Westhoff or his namesake sister, but rather to the Guaitecas cypress, the southernmost conifer in the world, as the main actor of the fragrance. Nevertheless, this makes sense against the backdrop of the discussions about "Mestizaje." Joel L. Martinez, who refers to himself as "Mestizo," understands the fragrance creations of his "Perfumería Mestiza" as rebellious acts of resistance against the restrictions and oppression by the powerful. This includes, as @ElAtterine convincingly elaborated in her review of "Arrayán Rojo | 432," the positive reevaluation of the racially connoted term "Mestizo." And also the reclamation of the colonial toponym Melinka along with olfactory reforestation: Where in the 19th century wilderness was domesticated and commodified, here under the name, untamed wild growth prevails again. At least that is what the fragrance expresses to me. The distillate of the Guaitecas cypress, which vividly evokes the Patagonian coastal forest, is complemented here by tree moss and resins such as labdanum, myrrh, and frankincense, creating an aromatic-spicy, rather cool scent impression. The explicit use of southern tree moss from the Valdivian rainforests together with that from the northern hemisphere fits well with the "Mestizaje" philosophy. "Melinka" is, like "Arrayán Rojo | 432," unrefined and unpretentious, herb-spicy and green-brown-resinous, full of power and immediacy, of wild and simple beauty. Similarly, the progression is not very pronounced, but rather manifests itself in a gentle retreat. After a strong opening, where cool silver frankincense forms the dominant top note, the fragrance quickly becomes more intimate and softer, yet, although projecting only modestly, it has decent longevity. The spicy forest notes of cypress, resins, and moss remain a gentle, pleasant companion for several hours.

The cap of the bottle is handcrafted from Pilgerodendron wood. However, just like for the fragrance itself, no protected stocks were logged for this. Instead, wood from old fence posts, which were typically made from this wood in vineyards in the Chilean Aconcagua Valley, was used. The bottle, fragrance, and the philosophy of the house thus form a harmonious unity.

Once again, heartfelt thanks to @ElAtterine for the opportunity to sample.

The Alpine Hike
Hidden deep within an alpine mountain range lie numerous surprises.
A solitary path winds its way through idyllic winds, the surroundings shrouded in delicate mist, nettles greet us and the resin-soaked trees wave from afar.

At the beginning, Melinka welcomes you with a whispering lemon that motivates us to wander into nature. In the process, we (thankfully) get lost in an alpine mountain range, where it often drizzles, rains mystically, and dense fog clouds continually roll in.
These white-gray clouds form not only from water vapor but also from the clearing of some fields. Could this be a Chilean alternative to incense? Possibly!

Along the narrow hiking trails, sweet-wild bees frolic with the remnants of their last feeding: resinous-unsweet honey, herby blossoms, and spicy lemon juice.
The fire and the already burning logs calm down, cheerfully burning away and returning to the spectacle.

A quick glance to the side: pure darkness. A wrong step could have been the last.
The valley awaits our return, but we linger and let ourselves be seduced by the heavenly enthusiasm.

Our last breath: fresh mist, cold drizzle, smoky herbs - Melinka.

It would fit well in the Monocle series by CdG. Resins and woods, aromatic green and bittersweet, with a hint of incense on top.
