Hello everyone and good evening :)
Yes, yes, yes, I know that Sandalo does not mean "sandal," but rather sandalwood. However, it still sounds like "sandal" to me at first, and it makes me think of those old sandal movies. You know, those films where the heroes swing swords and axes while wearing more or less heavy armor and are quite muscular, with their sweaty feet (yuck!!) only in sandals, which usually becomes their greatest weakness as soon as they stub their big toe against something, which really hurts, and then they just curse and would like to brutally slaughter everyone around them out of anger, which is also quite fitting since they are constantly encountering enemies, like the Romans... or if you are a Roman yourself, then an enemy of the Romans... Gauls, for example, or something similar :D
Anyway, sandalwood is a fragrance ingredient that is supposed to smell oriental and bring a touch of the East into your home. It is said to smell soft and balsamic, but also seductive. Allegedly, it is supposed to have aphrodisiac effects because its composition is said to resemble male hormones. Pah! ... that is so not true! I have used who knows how many fragrances with sandalwood (both with and without wildly waving my hands near women to direct my aphrodisiac scent cloud towards them!), and never has a woman turned around for me or thrown herself at my neck *sigh*
(It’s like that old Axe deodorant commercial, you can spray as much as you want, the women won't tear your clothes off...!).
Well, anyway, now I come to Sandalo by Acqua di Parma, a brand that I generally like (Fico di Amalfi is, for example, one of my favorite fragrances, definitely worth a try! :) And Sandalo is also a quite successful scent that I liked.
The scent:
Sandalo starts with citrus notes, primarily bergamot and oranges, which smell fresh and good and also have a slightly classic touch, likely due to the lavender, which is often a component in many classic fragrances.
At the same time, the scent also smells modern, so while it has a somewhat mature aroma and is thus more intended for adults than younger guys, it does not smell old-fashioned. Of course, the scent quickly becomes soft-balsamic woody. The sandalwood is pleasant to smell, but still comes across as weak; however, this changes towards the base. A nice sweetness is also present, which seems to come from a mix of amber and tonka bean.
The background is slightly resinous, or at least that’s how it seems to me, and I like that because I personally enjoy resinous fragrance notes. The cardamom has a spicy but also slightly green scent. Cardamom is always a bit of a thing for me, as I sometimes find this note disturbing, but that was probably due to past combinations with other fragrance notes that overshadowed the cardamom with their devilish scent, like coriander, for example :D
Because here I find the cardamom quite nice and very fitting with the rest of the scent progression.
So... over time, the oranges become the strongest citrus notes among the citrus notes. However, the citrus scents fade towards the end, so that in the end, you primarily smell lavender and wonderful sandalwood, with a nice, amber sweetness and the resinous notes. I generally find Sandalo very successful.
The sillage and longevity:
The projection is quite okay, but it could have been a little stronger. The scent cloud you emit is good, but I felt that the sillage faded a bit quickly. Well, at a normal distance, it is pleasant to smell for a while, but it is not a standout, though it doesn’t need to be. I can't decide between six or seven points here, so I’ll give it six points for now... just imagine this as 6.5 points :D
The longevity is also quite okay. The scent lasts at least eight hours, which I find pretty good.
The bottle:
The bottle is cylindrical and slightly widens in height. It is dark brown and has a shiny light brown label with the name and logo on the front. The cap is the same brown as the bottle, also cylindrical, and widens in height just like the bottle. It feels very good in the hand and is generally a very beautiful bottle.
So! For some reason, I overlooked Sandalo; I don’t know why. Otherwise, I would surely have remembered testing this fragrance. Because it really smells wonderful. It is classic with modern accents and is not really old-fashioned, even though I think it might not suit younger people as much.
It is a great everyday scent that is less suitable for going out or, better said, for the evening, but during the day, it represents a wonderful companion for me, whether for work, leisure, meeting someone for coffee (or sniffing fragrances, where you get dragged from store to store, even if you should be olfactorily saturated by now... :D) or such things. Best used in spring, autumn, and winter.
So, that’s it. I wish everyone a nice evening and a great weekend. Tomorrow, I will probably be back in a smaller village; let’s see if I can write here tomorrow or in the coming days, oh you’ll see it here anyway :)
