Oh what do I love this one! Typical Italian Acqua di Parma in the fresh citrusy opening developing into a classy creamy sandalwood. Nothing too complex, but all of the notes have been blended so well together. There are a lot of good spicy-woody fragrances out there, but none to my knowledge with such an outstanding fresh opening. Both longevity and sillage are good. Nothing beastmode here, but it doesn’t have to be. Elegant and classy for the more classic gents out there. You can’t go wrong with this one. My favourite out of the Colonia collection.

Not another sandal movie! :D
Hello everyone and good evening :)
Yes, yes, yes, I know that Sandalo does not mean "sandal," but rather sandalwood. However, it still sounds like "sandal" to me at first, and it makes me think of those old sandal movies. You know, those films where the heroes swing swords and axes while wearing more or less heavy armor and are quite muscular, with their sweaty feet (yuck!!) only in sandals, which usually becomes their greatest weakness as soon as they stub their big toe against something, which really hurts, and then they just curse and would like to brutally slaughter everyone around them out of anger, which is also quite fitting since they are constantly encountering enemies, like the Romans... or if you are a Roman yourself, then an enemy of the Romans... Gauls, for example, or something similar :D

Anyway, sandalwood is a fragrance ingredient that is supposed to smell oriental and bring a touch of the East into your home. It is said to smell soft and balsamic, but also seductive. Allegedly, it is supposed to have aphrodisiac effects because its composition is said to resemble male hormones. Pah! ... that is so not true! I have used who knows how many fragrances with sandalwood (both with and without wildly waving my hands near women to direct my aphrodisiac scent cloud towards them!), and never has a woman turned around for me or thrown herself at my neck *sigh*
(It’s like that old Axe deodorant commercial, you can spray as much as you want, the women won't tear your clothes off...!).

Well, anyway, now I come to Sandalo by Acqua di Parma, a brand that I generally like (Fico di Amalfi is, for example, one of my favorite fragrances, definitely worth a try! :) And Sandalo is also a quite successful scent that I liked.

The scent:
Sandalo starts with citrus notes, primarily bergamot and oranges, which smell fresh and good and also have a slightly classic touch, likely due to the lavender, which is often a component in many classic fragrances.
At the same time, the scent also smells modern, so while it has a somewhat mature aroma and is thus more intended for adults than younger guys, it does not smell old-fashioned. Of course, the scent quickly becomes soft-balsamic woody. The sandalwood is pleasant to smell, but still comes across as weak; however, this changes towards the base. A nice sweetness is also present, which seems to come from a mix of amber and tonka bean.
The background is slightly resinous, or at least that’s how it seems to me, and I like that because I personally enjoy resinous fragrance notes. The cardamom has a spicy but also slightly green scent. Cardamom is always a bit of a thing for me, as I sometimes find this note disturbing, but that was probably due to past combinations with other fragrance notes that overshadowed the cardamom with their devilish scent, like coriander, for example :D
Because here I find the cardamom quite nice and very fitting with the rest of the scent progression.
So... over time, the oranges become the strongest citrus notes among the citrus notes. However, the citrus scents fade towards the end, so that in the end, you primarily smell lavender and wonderful sandalwood, with a nice, amber sweetness and the resinous notes. I generally find Sandalo very successful.

The sillage and longevity:
The projection is quite okay, but it could have been a little stronger. The scent cloud you emit is good, but I felt that the sillage faded a bit quickly. Well, at a normal distance, it is pleasant to smell for a while, but it is not a standout, though it doesn’t need to be. I can't decide between six or seven points here, so I’ll give it six points for now... just imagine this as 6.5 points :D
The longevity is also quite okay. The scent lasts at least eight hours, which I find pretty good.

The bottle:
The bottle is cylindrical and slightly widens in height. It is dark brown and has a shiny light brown label with the name and logo on the front. The cap is the same brown as the bottle, also cylindrical, and widens in height just like the bottle. It feels very good in the hand and is generally a very beautiful bottle.

So! For some reason, I overlooked Sandalo; I don’t know why. Otherwise, I would surely have remembered testing this fragrance. Because it really smells wonderful. It is classic with modern accents and is not really old-fashioned, even though I think it might not suit younger people as much.

It is a great everyday scent that is less suitable for going out or, better said, for the evening, but during the day, it represents a wonderful companion for me, whether for work, leisure, meeting someone for coffee (or sniffing fragrances, where you get dragged from store to store, even if you should be olfactorily saturated by now... :D) or such things. Best used in spring, autumn, and winter.

So, that’s it. I wish everyone a nice evening and a great weekend. Tomorrow, I will probably be back in a smaller village; let’s see if I can write here tomorrow or in the coming days, oh you’ll see it here anyway :)

For some time now, Acqua di Parma has been spreading its wings and flying to new shores, merging them with their classic citrus fragrance DNA. In "Colonia Sandalo," creamy sandalwood meets sweaty citrus feet - sounds strange, but that's how it is. At least in my flask between the eyes.

This fresh sandalwood starts off typically for AdP - citrusy, bright, sparkling. Especially the Petitgrain is fabulous. For me, this is the best part of the fragrance; the Italians can do this, almost regardless of what comes next. Here follows an unusual combination, especially with the summery start: the fragrance turns into a spicy sandalwood. Still very Italian, but definitely bold. Sandalwood is creamy, cardamom is spicy-creamy, tonka can be creamy - and yet the composition initially feels quite uneven. At first glance. Because minute by minute, I like it more. Although it doesn’t really move or change much.

Italiano vero, one could almost say a true Roman. Russell Crowe aka Maximus would wear this. Not for the faint-hearted. A mature, sunny, juicy all-rounder that can quickly become annoying or may not even hit the mark, but for me, it scores with its casual-summery interpretation of otherwise much heavier fragrance materials. A must-try for any city trip to a city on the boot. Whether Turin or Palermo, whether cloudy or scorching hot - the fragrance holds up. The Colosseum becomes a barbershop. Oily massage undertones spread out.

Bottle: also beautiful in brown, the AdC's
Sillage: old school can also be (somewhat) discreet
Longevity: 7 hours of retro bliss

Conclusion: a gladiator on leisure time. Sometimes the beard needs a trim... A wonderfully timeless barbershop warrior.

Bleu de Chanel for Adults or: The Masculin Pluriel by Acqua di Parma
Two headlines and two focal points in my perception of this fragrance from the Ingredient Collection by Acqua di Parma:

Firstly: Colonia Sandalo fits always, at any time, for any occasion. Just like Masculin Pluriel, my signature scent by Francis Kurkdjian. To avoid misunderstandings: Sandalo and Pluriel are two completely different fragrances. But I find that both have very similar, namely very high qualities.

Secondly: Colonia Sandalo reminds me a lot of Bleu de Chanel (EdP, but especially the Parfum) due to its strong sandalwood dominance. Only that Colonia Sandalo comes across as much rounder, softer, and more noble than the current cash cow from Chanel (which I actually appreciate in the parfum variant). Much less sharpness and shower gel, just pure woody sandalwood freshness.

Initially, the Colonia core DNA comes with the familiar citrus notes. I am always amazed at how Acqua di Parma manages to bring this opening in so many and such different fragrances. The sandalwood, which I can smell after about 10 minutes, is clearly dominant. Here, any artificiality is avoided by a little cardamom and for me, a lot of lavender. The Colonia reference remains clearly recognizable to me. After about half an hour to an hour, Colonia Sandalo becomes softer and rounder due to tonka bean, but not sweet.
Colonia Sandalo is distinctive, present, but not loud, and therefore a woody-fresh all-rounder without synthetics - a Bleu de Chanel for adults indeed.
Comparisons in the area of footwear seem unproductive to me!

Eau de Cologne Concentree vs. Eau de Parfum
Rarely have I encountered such a perfect fragrance, or smelled one, especially since I had no expectations, also due to the fact that the yellow and blue AdPs are quite nice, but nothing more. The concept of starting with lemon to attract the nose is old, also well-known with candidates like Eau Sauvage (not to be confused with the dreadful Sauvage and its even more dreadful offshoots) or Pour Monsieur, although AdP still continues this game. Nothing against the lemon at the beginning, as long as beautiful other fragrance notes join in the heart and base. I find that if one manages to do that, then the lemon at the beginning is always quite welcome to me, although it is even nicer when it remains a bit present in the background until the end, which, in my opinion, is the case here. Very few manage that these days. Both versions of Sandalo truly have their justification in my opinion. All the more sad is it that the vintage is being discontinued. The demise of good fragrances does not stop. (Here also a reference to Acqua Amara, already gone, although it only came out in 2014) On the other hand, one has to deal with countless offshoots of Stronger with You nowadays, which no one really needs. To be precise, there didn’t even need to be the original version of this nonsense. If Armani has done something right in the gourmand area in recent years, then it’s the 2021 Code. It almost made it into my collection because it is really good, but only almost. The dealbreaker in the end was the vanilla.
But back to Sandalo.
Both Sandalos share the wood and citrus construct, which I find is implemented slightly better in the vintage, focusing on the important and essential, and that is exactly why it is better. The new version is somewhat enhanced by creamy-sweet notes, which aligns more with today’s zeitgeist, and it could also appeal to the buyer demographic under 30, although an AdP fragrance, regardless of which, is not made for the childish clientele. The truly strong sandalwood note is common to both, and for me, it is the most beautiful aspect of the fragrance. I have only known the fragrance for a short time, yet I find the vintage so perfect that I immediately checked which major online retailer offers it at the presumably best price. When I saw that the vintage was no longer represented at all by the big three online retailers, I sensed impending doom and immediately inquired at the two premium stores in Würzburg. Yes, unfortunately, the vintage has been discontinued, is no longer distributed in Germany, and only remaining stocks can be grabbed online.
What is somewhat confusing is also the designation of the fragrance type of both, and what is written on it is really contrary to what one can expect (also taking into account the color scheme), in terms of longevity and sillage.
When I tested the new black EdP and then looked up the review here, I thought that with H+S as indicated, yes, that fits. Should the brown one, which is color-wise weaker and also designated as Cologne Concentree, really be stronger? I thought no, since it is the vintage, many (older and conservative) AdP lovers (who are more attached to the lighter AdPs) must have rated it worlds stronger because they tend to rate the very light AdPs rather with a 7, although actually only a 6 in H+S is already more than what it is. While my package was on its way, I pondered several times, oh God, did I make a really bad blind purchase? The expectations were high, but not too high. And were they disappointed? No, not really. As stated here with an average of 7.5 to 8, yes, that is true. Anyone seriously talking about a Cologne here is mistaken. If one of the two candidates is an EdP, then it is definitely the Cologne. Just recently had another experience, an absolutely beautiful new release, also a Cologne, also rated 7.5/7.5, turned out to be a deception. It was/is the new Azzaro Cologne Intense. So in terms of scent, truly perfect. Anyone who can settle for a bit less H+S, or sprays more often, will still be well served with this Cologne. In terms of scent, an absolute 10. This raises for me the question of why so many excellent fragrances have to be so weak far too often. And why on earth do so many 2000s and 2010s junk gourmands have to be unbearably loud? I’m sorry, I don’t know.
Thus, I have once again found an undisputed perfect fragrance for myself. Whether I should find that good, I don’t know either, especially since the mega vintage will unfortunately soon become extinct. The EdP cannot hold a candle to the vintage, neither in scent nor in presence. But if it should eventually be completely gone, then definitely prefer the black one, still better than much of what one has to endure.

A barbershop sandalwood scent. Herbal, fresh, woody, and spicy. Overall, it has a nice old-school vibe. I think it's more for men.

Solid but one of the weaker ones in the brown series; the typical cologne ingredients struggle with the relatively dark sandalwood.
