With this scent, I would gladly become the Lady of the Camellias!
Unlike its two siblings Osmanthus Fragrans and Mentha Citrata, Camellia Soliflor is a distinctly feminine fragrance.
The camellia as a flower has a strong, spicy, and sweet scent, and it should not be placed in the bedroom due to the risk of headaches. However, Camellia Soliflor can be sprayed and worn in the bedroom at any time, or sprayed on laundry and applied to the wrists at night.
Acqua di Stresa offers a beautifully composed camellia scent with Camellia Soliflor, which I immediately added to my wish list. The opening is more than interesting, with the clove and pepper balancing each other in strength. Interesting and absolutely different from what I expected! A sweet, slightly peppery, and spicy opening with floral hints.
However, both notes fade away, giving way to a beautiful floral scent. Lovely, yes slightly sweet and spicy, this is how this floral fragrance presents itself. I cannot perceive jasmine as such, but it surely contributes to the soft, creamy scent note of Camellia Soliflor.
The base notes support the fragrance but do not change its direction. Only a very subtle soapy note appears towards the end of the scent.
Wonderful, this camellia. Marie Duplessis - Alexandre Dumas' Lady of the Camellias - would surely have loved Camellia Soliflor, just like Sarah Bernhardt and Greta Garbo, who both embodied the role of Marie Duplessis on stage and in film, making it unforgettable.
