Dr.Oudo brews the sour lemongrass medicine from damp grasses of the liqueur-like earth in a sweet wooden barrel. Patience pays off, just like with wine.*
I still have a sample lying around. I wanted to give it another try anyway. The quality is impressive, but the opening didn't really do it for me. The development was much more to my liking. That dry lemongrass note at the start just wasn't my thing.
It seems like Taha is producing more stock. You can also get the Java again through a distributor. I wouldn't be surprised if the blend smells a bit "different." To put it neutrally, the brand is quite opaque. The Java bottle I received is likely an older one.
So the drydown really stands out for you too. According to Melonenwelle's report, it's pleasant right from the start. That contrasts with our perception. But here too: it has the new version. I've already noticed differences with the new Blu bottle that aren't in my favor. Taha seems to have minimal, but quite noticeable tweaks between the concentrations & batches? Or is it just old juice being sold again? Tough to say…
The top note is quite medicinal, sharp & minty with lemongrass & vetiver. It then becomes sour-herbaceous & damp-earthy with vetiver & patchouli. The “balsam” has a sage-like quality. There's a bit of a liqueur-like note (also patch) that comes through. The oud is more in the background, but becomes beautifully present hours later in the base with a clay-spicy & balsamic-sweet scent around a woody cedar. This typical oud drydown, like in his other fragrances, is something I really enjoy. It's interesting to smell, but not something I would wear because of the syrupy start-middle. For fans of the 100% unperfumed :D My surroundings also find it too intense & stinky 😂 Someone said I overdid it with just 1 spray 😟💀 Thanks to JonasP1 🙏🏼
@Seejungfrau I always show friends & family Agar Aura ouds & co., just to see how regular folks react. They always say it's too medicinal & overwhelming at first, but then they find it better, even nice & pleasant. Sometimes I can understand that. I think they're just not desensitized yet, or haven't gotten a taste of the real deal 😅 Their noses are still too European/Mainstream trained.
but you never know ☺️
