The Delicate Whiff of Nothing

Sometimes there are really coincidences: just two hours ago, I was talking with vanilla buddy Mezzanine about the new Aigner fragrance and that one should perhaps test it because it is currently making a rocket start in the parfumo charts. But where to test the supposed jewel?

Shortly after, I set off to run a few errands. The Aigner had already slipped my mind. And where do I suddenly walk by? Exactly, an Aigner store! I had never noticed it before, even though I grew up in this city. So I quickly turned around and went into the shop. I immediately asked if they also carry fragrances or just clothing, and soon after, the extraordinarily nice lady sprayed the new scent onto a test strip. Unfortunately, she had already given away all the samples, so I soon sprayed directly from the bottle onto my skin. She kindly said: "You best do it yourself, you know better how much you usually spray." So I took three good sprays right away.

"Aigner N°1 Oud" comes across as very high-quality, very elegant, and very refined. Leather and oud hold strong in the background, but are still the most prominent notes. Similarities to Davidoff's new "Leather Blend" cannot be denied. The saffron and other spices add a sweet, spicy-oriental touch to the fragrance. "Aigner N°1 Oud" is, in addition to the obvious sweetness, also very soft and creamy. After a brief consideration, I immediately knew which other fragrance I felt very strongly reminded of: "Oud" by Maison Francis Kurkdjian. However, the Aigner leans much more towards body lotion; in this case, it could really be one. The scent is incredibly smooth and delicate, making it very suitable for women. Or even more so for women, as it soon becomes quite powdery. The comparison below with "Dior Homme Intense" is not entirely wrong.

This noble-seeming fragility and delicateness is also simultaneously the main problem of "Aigner N°1 Oud," as I find it far too weak and too restrained. After 60 minutes, it's all over, and you are left with just a skin scent. What remains is something slightly sweaty that reminds me of the "Oud" from Reminiscence. Yet, it was three sprays, and since New Year's Eve, I've been taking a fragrance break to let my nose recover. But that was too little for me, and I won't be happy with that; my regular liquid soap is currently overpowering the Aigner. The scent itself is actually beautiful, but even the mentioned MFK was already a bit too weak for me; the Aigner is then really almost just a delicate whiff of nothing...

Oud seems to be my nemesis somehow XD But it doesn't sound that bad at all :)

You're right - it really does smell great, but unfortunately it fades away pretty quickly, or at least it turns into a whisper of nothing on my skin... such a shame :(

That sounds incredibly interesting, I can't wait - but only 1 hour... that kind of dampens the anticipation a bit. ;-)

As always, a very good and informative comment. You've set the bar really high with "Oud" from MFK;-)!!!

I don't find the scent fragile at all; it's just not a heavy wood-Oud. To me, it smells nice, but if you've been familiar with this direction for a while, it falls into the "sprayed a thousand times" category. The Oud from MFK is definitely more distinctive.

Hmm, that sounds good overall, except for the longevity. I’ll give it a try. Fortunately, most scents stick to me like glue. Let’s see how this one works out for me. Thanks for the informative comment. :-)
