Charming Seaside Rose Garden
Gentle roses mingle with the fresh and slightly aquatic notes in this beautiful summer perfume. I am a big fan of rose scents and this lovely interpretation of the rose reminds me of a charming rose garden by the ocean on a hot day. The scent is natural and pretty, like sunshine sparkles on the blue waves. It embodies the feeling of being on seashore while holding a big fragrant bouquet of roses with the fresh wind in my hair, sunshine and warm sand between my toes.

What I like about the composition is how well-balanced and natural the scent is. It is only slightly aquatic which complements the rose perfectly. The illusion of the seaside is created by fresh citrus notes in the opening mixed with the gentle rose scent and just a hint of marine notes. The rose is of course the centre of the show and the scent gets rosy in the heart complimented by the sweetness from immortelle. It is immortelle that creates in the heart notes this feeling of hot sand for me. The scent still remains light and fresh despite the sweetness from the rose and immortelle. I like a lot the fresh softness of the scent. In the dry down, the scent becomes musky but it still maintains its lovely rose’s structure. The sillage and longevity are average (4-5 hours).

This lovely slightly aquatic rose scent is perfect for summer. I especially love how this scent opens up in hot and humid weather.

Watery but not aquatic, Open but not radiant...
Coincidentally I was wearing MDCI ROSE DE SIWA last night, and today's episode of my ongoing journey through the seemingly endless house of Rosine happens to feature a perfume which covers some of the same territory: UNE ROSE AU BORD DE LA MER.

To be honest, I put off testing this entry in the Rosine line-up because of the name. I'm not much for aquatic fragrances, so when I see the word 'mer' [sea], I generally steer clear, since it usually means that calone will be looming large, and I seem to be intolerant of that substance to the point where it induces in me a feeling akin to seasickness--appropriately enough.

No such problem here. UNE ROSE AU BORD DE LA MER is indeed a watery rose, but it is not at all aquatic, at least not in the sense meant by that term in modern perfumery. The scent here is both rosey and watery, rather like drops of water on rose petals. There is also an open quality here which, too, reminds me of ROSE DE SIWA. However, there is a difference: the open quality in ROSE DE SIWA is similar to the effect I've perceived in creations such as TERRE D'HERMES and ENCRE NOIRE, which pack such a punch of iso-E-super that they literally clear my sinuses and make it difficult to detect some of the intended notes of the perfume.

In UNE ROSE AU BORD DE LA MER, the rose is front and center and not at all outweighed by "radiance"-making molecules. This is a very natural-smelling, clean and fresh and watery rose scent, without being soapy or aquatic. Another winner from Rosine, I definitely recommend this perfume to anyone who likes MDCI ROSE DE SIWA--and also those who find that composition a touch too "radiant".

Allow me to introduce: her beauty, the salt rose!
There is a beautiful fairy tale that has been adapted into a film in the Czech Republic. It is called "Salt more precious than gold." In this fairy tale, the princess must free her prince. To do so, she has to overcome various tasks and receives a salt rose that opens hidden doors for her, thus paving her way. I love this fairy tale, even though I have long outgrown the "fairy tale age."
I thought of this fairy tale and the salt rose when I sprayed Une Rose au Bord de la Mer.

At first, the fragrance exudes fresh, fruity notes of bergamot, bitter orange, and mandarin; these are neither too sour nor too bitter, but simply fresh-fruity.
After a few moments, a salty note joins in, and it is the kind of salty note that I perceive when I walk along the sea in the evening, just before sunset, when it has become cooler again. At the same time, the top note becomes a bit greener, and the fragrance gets a real freshness kick.

Then the rose comes in, no, it is roses. Roses that beautify the roadside with their growth, their few, purplish-red blooms, and their scent. A very peculiar fragrance that has nothing romantic, soft, or creamy about it, but rather sets a clear, fresh, and dry tone, even in the warm, orange evening sun.

Normally, my skin brings the jasmine contained in a fragrance to the surface tenfold. Apparently, however, it is sleeping during my test, as I do not perceive any jasmine at all. Strawflowers smell dry-hay-like, which I remember from my childhood, and there is a faint scent in that direction, although it does not last particularly long.

Although I can detect a certain warmth in the base, the fragrance remains quite woody and unsweet.
Until the end, I can perceive the rose; I guess it is indeed the jasmine that gives it the lasting freshness in this case. Both are laid on a green moss/ sandalwood bed, and all together fade away, becoming weaker after about 3 hours.

Admittedly, the longevity could be significantly better, but the fruity freshness that the fragrance displays, making it suitable for both genders, is a very nice and pleasant compensation when one reapplies after 3 hours.

Among Other Roses
This fragrance skims sharply past my wish list. It is not a wonderful rose scent that is the reason, but rather its unsweetened yet expressive freshness.

The first impression that the not unusual top note evokes is strangely not the Mediterranean freshness we know, for example, from Carthusia fragrances, but a cool, wide, and clear sprightliness. Une Rose au Bord de la Mer is a scent to breathe in. Significantly cooler than the scents of Mediterranean beaches and also more serious.

For me, the rose is not the theme of the fragrance. Rather, I smell the components of the pyramid from the perspective of the rose. It introduces us to its companions, where jasmine also plays a minor role for me. What lies beneath the maritime notes, I cannot put into words, but I can smell what is meant. It is this clean, wide, rather cool, and herbaceous character that defines the fragrance.

Before one starts to shiver, a warm and powdery base reveals itself, allowing the fragrance to fade delicately. Surprisingly, just before it disappears, the rose waves goodbye to me one more time. Thus, the circle closes, and placing the fragrance among rose perfumes makes sense after all.

I also believe that this perfume could certainly be worn by men, and if my wish list didn't already have so many beautiful fragrances noted, I could very well imagine the beach rose as a summer scent for next year.

Never say never…
…because life always has surprises in store.

Rose scents actually don’t belong to my usual preferences (actually), as I neither like their scent nor the plants themselves.
Or rather, I should say noble roses, because I do like the small, bushy “farmer’s roses” (Alba roses) with their countless small, pink flowers. My grandfather had them in his garden and I loved them dearly, just like him.
Unfortunately, they are never available in flower shops or at the market; otherwise, a lush bouquet, tied with daisies and cornflowers, would surely adorn my apartment.

The comments on URaBdlM immediately appealed to my senses and I was very pleased to receive a sample from Joley.
As can be seen from the fragrance pyramid, the scent starts off citrusy. Nothing “new,” many perfumes start similarly, yet it is a well-crafted pleasant top note.
But then the scent transforms, there’s a kick, it becomes soft and sweet, paired with a wonderfully fresh note, one might think they smell spicy - salty sea air.
This may seem contradictory, but it is not; the balance between sweetness and freshness is absolutely successful here.
However, I do not think of the Mediterranean, but of the Atlantic in northern France, Normandy with its beautiful beaches, its tidal changes, where countless scallop shells and cuttlefish can be found at low tide, where the tide can indeed develop into a destructive spring tide during full moon/new moon.
The air is pure and clear, a pleasantly fresh wind blows.
The namesake of the fragrance, the rose, can only be an abundantly blooming wild rose or a lushly blooming “simple” espalier rose, like in Sleeping Beauty. It never pushes itself to the forefront but allows its companions jasmine and immortelle to unfold. It doesn’t need to, is aware of its effect, and doesn’t have to be in the spotlight all the time.
It is so beautiful in its simplicity and clarity that URaBdlM has conquered my heart in no time.
In the dry down, after about 2 hours, “the rose” becomes citrusy again with a light freshness accord in the background.
I find Une Rose au Bord de la Mer brilliant; despite my “frog blood,” the longevity is very good, the sillage just right.
A wonderful scent for spring and summer, which unfortunately is no longer available for purchase. There was only a limited edition of 200 pieces.

Rosine and I just won't be friends. The 10th scent I'm testing, and there's always an artificial note in it that I find creepy Oo

First lightly sweet with delicate floral-fruity notes, then salty...oh, truly close to the sea! Unusual, but a great summer tip.

Subtly feminine scent with unisex potential and good longevity. No harsh sea spray, immortelle, and naturally maritime at the core.

Lush citrus rose, typical of Rose de Rosine, dry immortelle, 1st scent from the label I actually like, where I don't smell anything rosy.

Red rose, nestled in a warm-soft-spicy base of amber and musk, non-poky, thornless yet rosy, delicate, and not overwhelming.
