Autumn light shines deep in the dew, breaking in the cool breath of the trees, sinking mistily to the ground in greenish gray, closer to frost than to summer days. Moist night falls from the dead leaves, the fallen hazy roofs, trickles over moss-covered walls, becomes soap as it touches small hands and then floats in bubbling brown bubbles over soft forest floors. The Nag Champa incense sticks have become damp. They can no longer be lit. They have swollen in the mosses and are beginning to disappear within them. A few small beads have been collected from the bark of the balsam firs, they shimmer like watery syrup lanterns, offering a bit of warmth. *** Amanda from Menlo Park in California produces her fragrance oils for Andromeda's Curse 100% vegan from high-quality essential oils. "The Hermit" vaguely reminds me of "Foxcroft (Perfume) | Solstice Scents," but is somewhat more oakmossy and thus soapier from the start. As in Foxcroft, autumn leaves and damp forest floor (designated as "dirt" on their Etsy page) are the protagonists alongside the mosses. A hint of Indian character is given by the Nag Champa incense sticks, which hide in the damp mosses and are later replaced by the balsamic notes of the namesake fir. Its resins contain cis-abienol, which closely resembles the amber from sperm whales. They provide a slightly sweet warmth in all the autumnal plant saps, lichens, and earths during the drydown. The Hermit's Leaf Hut has a moderate scent lasting just over seven hours.
I feel sorry for the hermit that it's so damp in his cell. Even the Nag Champas have turned into wet incense sticks. The scent sounds like it might be worth a try for me. But Herman's Hermits doesn't really fit the vibe, does it?
That all sounds very inviting and harmonious, well-balanced, and beautifully presented by you... a scent that I’m sure I would like, just like your review does again :-)
It's gotten quite cozy in the leaf hut - with so many autumn hermits around :) But I'm happy to join in - a wonderful poetic scent description that sounds like the essence of late autumn to me!
I loved being in the hermit's deep forest hideout! Fragrant, magical peace all around. Very pleasant! Little hands bring you a Nag Champa cup, alcohol-free of course!
In "The Hermit," there's definitely a lot of good stuff from the field, forest, and meadows, and the scent of the oil is probably more pleasant than overpowering! I could definitely feel at home for a while in the hermit's leaf hut, but I wouldn't want my apartment to smell like that when using it as a perfume!
Just the title makes me shiver. I hope the poor hermit moves to a weatherproof place soon. The thought of damp forest floor and oak moss, with or without apples, doesn't warm my heart either. I'm afraid I need something to warm me up quickly, like vanilla or something... ;-)
Autumn is a season I really love. The variety of scents is amazing. I prefer them in nature rather than on my skin, but I enjoyed accompanying you on your wonderful walk again.
... good morning! Mr. Poet! ;) ... I just walked through a foggy, enchanted autumn forest with syrup lanterns - what a picture! - You make autumn come alive with the most beautiful feelings... one just wants to let it sink under (on) the skin right away :)) ...
Cis-Abienol! Already noted. I've been wanting to know what this amber really smells like for a long time. Thank you, Professor Floyd, for this info and these lovely, calm, dreamy November pictures.
That sounds wonderful! I happily immersed myself in this great imagery. I settled down on the beautiful forest floor and let the leaf hut influence me. The brand sounds really exciting; I'm quite curious! :D
Great comment! The scent sounds really nice from your description. And... no apples ;-)
Unfortunately, I can't really get into the very oily consistency of Andromedas.
I've never had the luck to smell sperm whale amber...
