The Hermit's Tabernacle
Autumn light glows deep in the dew, refracts in the cool breeze of the trees, sinks misty to the ground in greenish gray, is closer the frost than the summer days. Damp night falls from dead leaves, downed hazy roofs, trickles over moss-covered walls, becomes soap, touches small hands, then floats in bubbling brown bubbles over soft wooded floors. The Nag Champa incense sticks have gone clammy. You can't light them anymore. They have swollen into the mosses and are beginning to disappear into them. A few small beads are gathered from the bark of the balsam firs, they buzz like watery syrup lanterns, you can warm yourself a bit on that.

"The Hermit" reminds me distantly of Foxcroft Perfume , but is a bit more oak mossy and thus soapy from the start. As in Foxcroft, autumn leaves and damp forest floor (identified as "dirt" on their Etsy page) are the protagonists here, along with the mosses. Adding a bit of Indian edge are the Nag Champa incense sticks, which hide in the damp mosses and are later replaced by the balsamic notes of the eponymous fir. Their resins contain cis-abienol, which is very similar to the ambergris from sperm whales. In the drydown, they provide some sweet warmth in all the autumnal plant juices, lichens and earths. The hermit's leafy hut smells moderate over a good seven hours.
