Latin America in a bottle from the 90's...

I was reminiscing about fragrances I owned in former lives the other day and somehow stumbled across this fragrance online but I had completely forgotten the name of it at the time.

It was as if a light came on in my mind, saying; "Yes this is it!"

I'm still in a state of disbelieve in a way about how I managed to re-discover this scent!

It got lost along the way and so much has happened in my life since then. I have so many amazing memories about this fragrance from the 90's in the United States. This episode takes me back to a young version of myself employed at the time by a company called Norwegian Cruise lines with it's home port based in Miami, Florida.

On the lookout for a fragrance I took a cab from the harbor to a perfume store in downtown Miami one day with a Latin American fragrance consultant behind the counter, I said to him I needed something that would be suitable for local conditions and explained my job situation.

I said it's for work, that I wasn't out to meet women with this or nothing like that. It didn't have to be anything sophisticated that could potentially rub the people up the wrong way (I somehow sensed the public just weren't feeling my Dior Homme for some reason). I said I did want to be noticed with it on but didn't want to seem like I'm flaunting or being ostentatious, I said I just needed a crowd pleaser (that would help get me tips) with longevity and projection. And since it's just for my job in other words didn't want go out there and spend like hundreds of dollars on it, know what I mean?

He said; "Say no more, I have just the stuff you need" He confidently presented me with this scent, ANIMALE ANIMALE for men, in fairly short order. At first I looked at the bottle and thought, what the? Only in America! But then the name; ANIMALE ANIMALE, I'm like, what the? again! Thinking Is this some kind of an animal scent or what? (I was new to American culture, only wearing Dior and Chanel at time as signature scents).

Anyhow long story short, I took the salesmen's word for it. I kind of liked the scent but had no idea the effect it had on people at the moment of purchase. As it turned out it was an all time hit, never had so many compliments for any scent I've worn since then it was totally worth the money ten times over!

From what i remember, it was super strong, massive room filling projection and 6 to 8 hours solid performance. It's a gourmand scent and very fruity, amazing pineapple and orange but it's much more complex than that. If you overspray this you can really gas people out with this or bowl them over, either way it's a strong perfume, go easy on the sprays.

For nostalgic reasons especially I'm getting me another bottle, it's still in a price range that won't break the bank.

My favorite fragrance reviewer of all time, The perfume guy did this super cool video on this fragrance interviewing with the creator of this scent that's really worth the time and explains it much more in-depth than I ever could.

In closing, if you like something outlandish, gourmand, unusual and fruity in your collection for a steal, just blind buy. It's like Latin America in a bottle, one of the coolest scents I've ever owned.
