Changing Seasons

Annayake's Tomo Fresh is one of those fragrances that draws you in from afar, thanks to its beautiful bottle, so that by the time you reach the shelf, your hand instinctively reaches out to sniff this scent. Unfortunately, it is sometimes the case that fragrances in attractive bottles do not necessarily smell good (and vice versa), but here a lot of things align, even if not everything is perfect.

The scent:
First of all, I must say that I do not know the original scent, that is, the regular Tomo, and therefore I cannot compare the two. So I do what I usually do and describe the scent as a completely normal, standalone fragrance.
It starts with citrus notes; nothing more specific is listed here on Parfumo, but I think it’s lemon and grapefruit that come across quite naturally. The lavender makes its presence felt quite quickly and integrates seamlessly into the overall scent, smelling more intense than the lily of the valley (which I now notice better thanks to a friend, but still need a bit of training with…). The tonka bean adds a small bonus to the fragrance (small because it is subtle, and bonus because tonka bean always smells so good), and together with the musk, the scent becomes a little sweeter towards the end, yet still remains fresh. The initial citrus notes now recede. I can somewhat confirm the caramel that has been mentioned a few times; I think it’s the interplay of tonka bean and musk, and it really smells very slightly caramel-like (reminds me a bit of those caramel candies from Storck Riesen), however, this impression fades very quickly before it becomes a bit woodier. In the end, the scent of tonka bean remains along with the faint musk and also the weak, woody notes.

The longevity is okay; I believe it lasts about 3-4 hours. However, the sillage is rather weak, and it does not create a large scent cloud around you. I would create a decant of this and carry it everywhere if I were to use this fragrance.

In my opinion, the bottle is one of the most beautiful I have seen. A wonderful azure blue bottle, slim and tall, with slightly concave (that is, inward) sides, almost a typically Japanese design. At the bottom of the bottle, "Annayake" is written in an interesting font that somehow reminds me of runic script.

The scent fits well in spring and summer, although not in high summer (as it is a bit too sweet at the end), but at the same time in autumn/winter, as it does not smell as fresh as the name Fresh might suggest, with its sweet notes and the later disappearing citrus notes.
Essentially, it smells like two different fragrances for different seasons. While the beginning of the scent up to the first half of the heart note marks spring and summer, the fragrance shifts from the second half of the heart note (and thus until the end in the base) and becomes a (light) autumn and winter scent.

And even though the sillage is somewhat low, I would definitely recommend trying the fragrance; you might like it.
