Glad I Circled Back

Many compare Triumph of Bacchus to Carlisle and Red Tobacco. Those are much darker to my nose. This is lighter and more versatile. With moderate sprays, I can wear it in several spaces I would never wear Red Tobacco or Carlisle. The tobacco is more moderate, perhaps because of the rum and white peach. A few have said it has a cough drop smell. I get that a little, but it is not medicinal or off-putting. I love Triumph of Bacchus! It is unique among tobacco fragrances I have tried.

Initially, I did not appreciate the boozy opening. The rum was too much for me at the time. My nose instinctively rejected the unfamiliar. I made a judgment about Triumph in the opening without allowing the scent to develop. Learning to circle back to fragrances that I do not understand or like is revealing to me how much what I appreciate can change. Perhaps, a little olfactory maturity. My opinion does not change for many scents, yet it does for some. Triumph of Bacchus is one of those. I went from, “Not for me,” to “Wow, this is good”. After a few more wears and comparing it to other tobacco scents, I was a fan. Soon after, my opinion was, “I’ve got to get a bottle.” I did something I rarely do. I paid full price and purchased it from the Argos website. I even marked it with my name.

If you have a decant, perhaps you can circle back to it. Your opinion will probably remain the same, but maybe not.
