I utterly adored both Gumaminas, so I was giddy to try Miss Milkbath. Unfortunately civet ain’t it for me. That animal note taunted me throughout the course of the day and when I eventually read a review that said the word “dischargey” I had to head to the shower. Milkbath is dischargey. That said, you’re probably incredibly chic if you rock this. It’s a flirty, taunty, teasy pretty girl of a pink musk and the apricot-almond high notes are stellar. It's like wearing a magenta lace thong under sheer white cashmere. Cunty, in both senses of the word. Could be a sister scent to Marissa Zappas's Maggie the Cat.

Mental Snapshot: The pastel-coloured powder room of a 1950’s socialite. Bubbles drift from a clawfoot tub, sweet with body oil and potpourri petals. The vanity glitters with countless compacts and lipsticks and crystal atomisers of French flowers. But none of it can truly conceal the jeering whisper of the NYC plumbing system.

Heliotrope Milkbath is the baby of the family. She’s the fairest and slightest, like the printer ran out of ink when she came out! She exists in shades of periwinkle and eggshell. She’s often sick, and lays in bed languid, pouty, and feverish, sucking on Choward’s violet candies. A literal pillow princess, she attracts a lot of sexual attention and expects to be doted upon.

Lovely until you smell the urine

This opens with a slightly tart candied apricot smell paired with a sweet almond milk. It’s slightly nutty, but still creamy and milky. The heliotrope here feels like purple florals on steroids, but with all the powdery facets stripped away. It’s extremely creamy, especially paired with the almond milk, creating an image of a tall glass of purple milk. This is pastel purple personified with a side candied apricots. Now here comes the bad part. The civet. The animalic notes here read like spot on old dried urine and it ruins the scent completely for me. You get all the enjoyable facets but there’s the pee smell lingering underneath. It’s not the worst thing in the world and far from the most funky animalic note there is, but it completely soured the fragrance for me. If your nose doesn’t pick up on the civet and your skin doesn’t amplify it, this scent could definitely for you.

Breastfeeding my powdered baby while being doted on

Something about this scent sort of makes me feel like I just had a baby, minus any and all of the trauma that would entail. Like I had a baby but it was somehow relaxing and magical. Like I just girl bossed my baby out and now me and the baby are chillin and we both just had an angelic bubble bath and our minions have powdered us up in baby powder and we’re lapping up a life of luxury and I’m breastfeeding the baby and a minion is fanning me with a palm leaf and feeding me grapes.

Normally I hate civet but this is great, doesn’t smell pissy at all to me. It doesn’t smell dirty to me either it just smells like powdery milky musky skin but like skin that’s been lived in. Just smells like body, not dirty or clean. There’s a bit of plastic initially, smells like a Barbie but it fades and isn’t offputting. Also kind of a chalky candy accord sort of like rockets (or smarties if you’re American). Sometimes the milkiness is a bit melon tinted to me. There’s overall not tons going on with this scent but I think it’s really nice.

Flowers after you-know-what

A silk bed strewn with flowers and splashes of champagne. There is a baby powder accord that comes through, but it's almost as though it's baby powder rebranded for Sexy Grownups so it's got some slutty florals in there. What I mean by slutty florals is flowers in a red vase that's full of civet. Definitely pissy, but in a sparkling white wine way. Almost tart but slightly too sweet to call it that. It's what I'd imagine an adult film star from the late 70s/early 80s would smell like. That's to say, I adore it.
