Blazing Metal, Incense Sticks, and Plum Wine
Tenmoku I - Mei Hua San Nong from Auphorie.
A perfume as complicated and unique as its name suggests. Try saying that fast. See?

Of the Auphorie perfumes that I tried, this one is the most captivating and peculiar. The composition is built around the Plum blossom and Plum wine accords. Not the fruit. However, there is much more going on. Hot, steamed metal, resins, ambergris, spices, and burning agarwood incense sticks. It's a heavy, smoky, resinous, and warm perfume. Pure Oriental. There is an unami feel to the composition that I cannot place. I suspect the ambergris is playing a pivotal role in creating that facet. The perfume plays on this sour-sweet duality. The steamed metal accord stays strong for the first couple of hours. It smells like an empty teapot left on the stovetop. A boozy plum wine accord blends in the metal pot together with a delicate, almost fleeting floral chord. The dry down steers into a rich, resinous base with an everlasting incense touch. A perfume of unique accords, opposite flavors, and striking contrasts that works unexcpectedly well. It's also one of the few perfumes I strictly use during colder weather. Coming from someone who looks down upon these labels. It is too rich and dense to wear in warmer temperatures.

Just like a glass of Plum wine. It will light up your soul and keep you warm.

From a Valley at Mount Tenmoku
温暖心灵 (Wēnnuǎn xīnlíng) - Warm the Spirit.
This plum wine burns only for the first moment before transforming into dark fruit, weaving ripe, sweet warmth around the noise of your days.
梅花三弄 (Méihuā sān nòng) - Three Plum Blossoms
Its aroma falls like sweet rain on the earth in the valley, nourishing the shoots of the barren trees, steaming the soil, and emanating from their few blossoms.
来自芦苇小屋 (Láizì lúwěi xiǎowū) - From a Reed Hut
Observe the winding path, in the distant smoke of the torches a cart disappears, like evening dew, threads of resin still fall, leaving traces of salt in the clay soil, the shimmering pearls of the day quietly singe into hay now on the land.

Eugene and Emrys Au create the fragrances for their label Auphorie using high-quality extracts and raw materials in small batches by hand. The special quality of their creations is also evident in "Tenmoku I - Mei Hua San Nong," a fragrance that connects the Chinese plum blossom with a traditional incense accord from the Song Dynasty.
A very brief alcoholic note at the opening quickly transforms into an accord of ripe, sweet plum liqueur, lightly animalic smoky earth (oud) and hay (likely the blossoms in conjunction with the woods). This underlying farm impression soon gives way to a blend of resins and salty amber, which intertwines with the slightly vanillic winter bloom, permeating the earthy, torfy oud. In the dry down, hay increasingly rests on the earth. The scent from a valley at Mt. Tenmoku projects moderately to softly for a good eight hours.
