Out of Love for the Scent
To take my conclusion this time - exceptionally - upfront: "No. 1" from Aus Liebe zum Duft - which is likely known through Mr. Wuchsas' eponymous online presence - is a beautiful, pleasant, and rounded - yet not boring - little scent. Yes, "little scent," because in one respect it is a bit disappointing: the longevity is unfortunately relatively poor at a price of 100€/100ml. After about 3 hours, only a few base remnants are perceptible directly on the skin, which, however, last for a few more hours. That's a bit of a shame - even though I have encountered significantly more fleeting colleagues. With a bit more endurance, this fragrance could have secured a place in my cabinet quite soon.
Let's forget the listed fragrance notes for a moment. In my opinion, they are not only incomplete but also partially incorrect. However, I can confirm the citrus component in the top note, although it does not last long. To all citrus-phobics, I must say: this serves at best as a complement to a rounded herbal/floral top note with slightly sweet/woody accents. It sounds a bit complicated, and indeed I have only found it similarly difficult to identify and accurately describe individual components in "Fahrenheit" by Dior. For the floral note, I would have guessed rose instead of jasmine, which is optimally complemented in the heart by a sweet (ginger?) amber. As a base, a few woody and leathery notes remain. According to the official description, leather should actually be the center of this fragrance, but I only get a few base remnants of it.
There is indeed a similarity to the "Touaregh" by Il Profumo mentioned by Apicius (in terms of the base), although this one can present significantly more leather and harsher wood notes, while "No. 1" lacks the rounded floral quality and mild sweetness.
There is also a minimal similarity to "Le Male" regarding the sweet heart notes. However, "No. 1" is significantly milder here and by no means as synthetic as the aforementioned sweet cardboard.
I am still a bit hesitant about the purchasing decision. Currently, other fragrances take precedence, and the longevity, as mentioned, does not necessarily speak in its favor. However, with a small decant in my pocket, "No. 1" would be a lovely fragrance for evening occasions or going out, although I would rather recommend it to a younger male audience (up to about 30). With appropriate longevity, it could also be considered for use as a signature scent.
