Powdery. Soft and Cozy

I have the Parfum concentrate of Pearl Musk; it last on my skin about 4 hours. It is a soft powdery white clean musk, with a touch of vanilla. in the same vein as Curve "Crush" and Sarah Horowitz Perfect Veil, with a bit of that Terra Nova "China Rain" feeling in the base layer. This is not a sweet musk, but there is something a little haunting about it...that keeps me going back to my wrist of a booster sniff. All-in-all, a soft, comfy cozy experience. Not very unique, but solid and good for every day, anywhere wearing office, gym and Mother-in-law brunch appropriate.

Non-perfumed Musk Scent

Ava Luxe is the perfume and cosmetics label based in Providence, Rhode Island, created by American perfumer Serena Ava Franco. In Germany, the cruelty-free and explicitly vegan-friendly fragrances, which can be ordered online, have, in my impression, not yet found significant distribution. A slightly larger sample of the scent "Pearl Musk" happened to come my way because the bottle was part of a swapped sample collection.

The notes of Pearl Musk are not listed here. I also could not find any information on Fragrantica (which does not list the fragrance) and Basenotes (which lists it but also does not provide notes). The somewhat sparse homepage of Ava Luxe describes Pearl Musk as “A lovely pearlescent skin musk that is deliciously clean & sexy with just a touch of sweetness”; translated roughly: “A pretty pearlescent skin musk, deliciously clean and sexy, with just a little bit of sweetness.”

Thus, the fragrance is fairly well described, even without a precise naming of notes. Pearl Musk is clearly a squeaky clean, bright musk scent with a tiny (really tiny!) touch of sweetness-floral. The scent is skin-like and emphasizes cleanliness, without even remotely drifting towards sticky or cloying. Associations with animalistic-sweaty hormonal exudation definitely do not arise. Is it still erotic? I mean, no, but that can certainly be seen differently. I simply do not like highly dosed musks, neither in the clean nor in the dirty version. Therefore, I will limit myself to the facts here.

On the skin, Pearl Musk indeed leaves a light, but distinctly visible pearlescent shimmer effect for a while. How this effect is achieved, and from which ingredients Pearl Musk and the other approximately 80 Ava Luxe fragrances are made, is not revealed on the Ava Luxe homepage. It only states that it consists of “finest aromatic ingredients, essential oils and precious essences from all around the globe” - which encompasses quite a lot.

For fans of close, clean musk scents with little sillage, Pearl Musk is certainly worth a test. I perceive the fragrance, considering the marketing concept (and setting aside my aversion to musk), as quite solid and harmoniously composed. Ava Luxe clearly targets fragrance users (predominantly women) who cannot relate to mainstream fragrances or the "more perfumed" niche labels. The fragrances from Ava Luxe seem to me to be a kind of evolution of the fragrance oils that were available in various scent directions in Indian shops and flea markets in the 70s and 80s.

I find it difficult to give a percentage rating for Pearl Musk because I (I repeat) simply do not like highly dosed musk fragrances of any kind. Therefore, I will limit myself to stating that the sillage approaches zero and the longevity is moderate. But this does not necessarily have to be perceived as a disadvantage when a "non-perfumed" scent is sought.
