Scratchy, masculine, timeless, pleasant - Azzaro pour Homme!

Hello and welcome to my first comment on a fragrance here on Parfumo! My name is Sebastian, I am 26 years old and I come from Bad Hersfeld - but here it should primarily be about the scent! :)

Why did I choose the classic AZZARO POUR HOMME for my first comment?
Azzaro p. H. is the first fragrance I purchased (and repurchased) myself, which I probably discovered around 2010 and then wore almost exclusively for several years, all year round and on all occasions (at some point I also discovered Drakkar Noir, which I would occasionally alternate with).
My heightened interest in perfumes arose in the autumn of 2019, since then several fragrances have been added - while "my classic" is of course still part of the mix!

First, a few thoughts on the bottle:

I really like the bottle made of brown glass. This familiar bottle is simple, classic, and somehow it feels powerful to me. It also reminds me of the pipe ashtray next to my grandfather's sofa, which surely also dates back to the 70s and is also made of brown glass.

Now, however, to the actual topic, namely the scent:

The scent - which brings so many beautiful and valuable memories to mind within a few seconds - is, after the first spray, primarily one thing: scratchy!
By that, I mean (in my opinion) not something unpleasant, but the scent does scratch right from the first sniff. The predominant notes for me are especially anise, lavender, and a bit of woodiness, with the first two being distinctly dominant.
However, when I look at the "Azzaro pour Homme diagram," I start to wonder. Many would classify Azzaro p. H. primarily as a fragrance for spring, autumn, and winter..
In spring, this scent is absolutely in its place, although I also like to wear it in summer - thanks to the anise and lavender, it has a lot of freshness... It smells to me like a clean, well-groomed man in rather classic clothing. On sunny autumn days, you can surely still wear it, but I don't see it in winter - the scent has nothing warm or winter-spicy about it.

In the morning, after a few sprays, the scent accompanies me throughout the (work) day - I perceive it for about 3-4 hours, but my surroundings notice it for much longer.
Since I work in field sales and (under "non-Corona circumstances") at my clients' dining tables, choosing a fragrance can sometimes be a bit tricky... However, with this scent, I believe one is "well-dressed" here too, as it is not too overpowering, and I somehow associate this smell with seriousness.

In summary, the classic AZZARO POUR HOMME is a timeless, fresh-scratchy fragrance, perfect for spring and summer, that smells powerful, masculine, clean, and well-groomed, and can be well used both in private life and at work.

So, you young gentlemen who don't (only) like ONE MILLION and INVICTUS (...), do give this wonderful men's fragrance a try! :)

Thank you for reading!

Best regards
Sebastian

The classic Azzaro is the ultimate fragrance. It will remain my favorite scent until my last breath, despite all the Tom Fords and Xerjoffs. I would love to know how many dozens of liters I've used over the past decades.
The "Smoke on the Water" of the perfume industry. A monolith, an unshakeable rock in the surf, something truly, truly great.

Thank you all for your responses!
I probably only know the current formulation and unfortunately can't compare it to the vintage version.
Well, that's how different our noses and perceptions can be - for me, the scent has almost no warmth at all. I might have to get the aftershave at some point; I haven't tried it yet. :)

Azzaro is definitely the scent that has stuck with me since my earliest childhood. And it still does to this day. It's my father's signature fragrance. A confident, masculine classic! And congratulations on your first and very successful comment!

Respect for wearing it at just 16! Azzaro was, is, and will always be a masterpiece. Where I have to disagree is that it radiates a lot of warmth for me, especially when paired with the aftershave.

Cool. I'm currently waiting for a vintage bottle. Do you notice any differences between the old and the new?
The old bottle cap is supposed to be oval without corners.
