Stripped down version of the original
Yes, it's true. Couture is a stripped down version of the original Badgley Mischka. It's not as fruity as the original and it's more creamy, with quite of bit of patchouli up front, a bit of musk as it dries, and a smokiness from top to bottom. The white florals are discernible but not as full-throttle as the Les Fleurs version.

I adore the original, despise the Les Fleurs version, and like Couture. The bottom-line is that Couture is a patchouli-rich scent which is devoid of clutter and perfectly acceptable as an everyday scent for patch-lovers. I dropped a whole $7 on a 7ml parfum mini, then immediately purchased a 15ml of parfum gel for twice that. I'm not sure that I need more quantity, but Couture definitely has a purpose in my wardrobe. I have tried the EdP and have to say the parfum version is much better.

Couture is a non-sugar, non-hippie patchouli that can be worn to the office. I definitely recommended Couture for sampling, and I'd say that patch-lovers can confidently blind purchase a mini.

Bland in comparison to Badgley Mischka
Okay, so I really liked the original Badgley Mischka with its bold, syrupy fruits. I thought, a couture version of Badgley Mischka should surely be just as rich, perhaps more elegant and ten times better, right? Hmm, not so.

Badgely Mischka Couture is a much blander fruity composition, with berries and watery pear leading in the opening. It's not as unique and rich as the original Badgley Mischka which comes as the first disappointment.

The floral heart comes across to my nose as being rather soapy. After sometime it develops into a sugary gardenia and an earthy and musky patchouli blend which was a little difficult for me to stomach.

As long as you apply this fragrance sparingly and don't smell up too close, Badgley Mischka Couture is passable. Unfortunately it smells sour on my skin, causing me to dislike this fragrance even more.

Towards the drydown it starts to turn, resembling something like a can of pears in syrup, complete with the alluminium can smell. Can't say I'm particularly rapt with anything in the composition itself. It all seems a jumbled, fruity mess.

I love the bottle design, I think it so very elegant and upscale. It's rather unfortunate that the scent doesn't match its outer packaging.

Truly a Flanker
What happens when you remove the peach from BADGLEY MISCHKA? You get the base, which appears to have been bottled straight up, with the addition only of a dash of pear, as BADGLEY MISCHKA COUTURE. This composition reminds me a bit of Grès CABARET, which showcases a somewhat sweaty muskiness, in complete consistency with its name. I myself have never really understood what people mean when they use the locution “transparent rose,” to be perfectly frank. But perhaps there is “transparent” gardenia, violet, and jasmine in BADGLEY MISCHKA COUTURE as well—in precisely the sense in which the Emperor's New Clothes are “transparent”.

My overall impression is that BM COUTURE was a quick and cheap flanker. Same bottle (dipped in a low-quality gold paint with poor adhesion), same composition minus the top notes plus a touch of pear. As one who never managed to comprehend the effusive outpouring of admiration and even gratitude for what appears in some select cases to have been an eschatological delivery of sorts occasioned by the sniffing of BADGLEY MISCHKA, I cannot muster up much enthusiasm for this flanker either. I don't really think that BM COUTURE is any worse than its namesake, but it's also not really any better.

Nectar of Forbidden Fruits
A fragrance where fruity aromas take a prominent place or even stand in the spotlight has had a hard time with me so far. Often, I got the impression of something cheap or clumsy. I also don't like it very much when a specific fruit is distinctly recognizable. Liquid food seems rather pointless to me, because it's called drinking, and until now I haven't had the idea to pour fruit juice into my décolletage. However, when I sniff Couture, I know for sure that until now, these have simply been very straightforward, rather poor fragrances. I recall Ultrared. So far, Amor Amor was the only perfume with a significant proportion of various fruits that I was truly enthusiastic about (and still am).

And then came Couture. To put it simply, it's the adult luxury version of Amor Amor (especially regarding the feeling that the fragrance evokes in me). Now, more specifically about the scent. In the fragrance notes, we first read pear nectar, and nectar is, in my view, the word that describes this scent well. Couture packs a punch; it’s not a fresh little water, but a fragrance explosion, thick and, speaking in colors, hazelnut brown. I wondered how Couture would "look." The following image became quite clear, and no, I do not suffer from long-term damage due to drug abuse. Wrapped in a fur blanket, I lie amidst fruits on a small boat, drifting on a whiskey river. The smell of whiskey flows into my nose in combination with the scent of ripe fruits. It’s this whiskey that caresses the throat instead of scratching it. As I breathe in, my hands dig into the blackberries. The sweet juice runs down my wrists and drips onto the fur. With my toes, I occasionally dip into the whiskey. I lean back and take a half plum. The pit has been removed, and the resulting hollow is filled with pear nectar. A hearty bite, however, cannot prevent it from running down the corners of my mouth and dripping onto the fur blanket again. I indulge in the pleasure and drift away.

Couture is soft, velvety, full, sensual, and incredibly caressing. Very sweet and fruity, but so wonderfully composed that the thought of a teenage or celebrity scent has no chance of sprouting. Couture has captivated me, and I look forward to finally holding my bottle, which has long been purchased, in my hands.

In conclusion, I would like to extend a big thank you! to dear Baux, who drew my attention to this fragrance. You invited me on a journey down the whiskey river, took me to the land of (until now) forbidden fruits, and showed that blackberry juice and pear nectar in the fur blanket possess an incredible longevity that one does not want to miss anymore.

Come and ease me, please just ease me.
It is a sin to simply stamp out such beautiful fragrances like Badgley Mischka. You don’t come across such scents every day!

With a lot of luck and after a long search, I managed to call all three Badgley Mischkas my own. The last one to join my collection - after I had already snagged the perfume mini earlier - was Badgley Mischka Couture EdT.

Couture is the lightest, but also the most extraordinary Badgley Mischka. It starts with a slightly alcoholic fruity note, no, not like rum pot, more like a peach in champagne (for the uninitiated: fresh, whole peach in champagne). It sparkles, ooooh yes!

The wonderfully light fruity note can linger for quite a while, as the flowers simply blend in and give the fragrance a wonderfully elegant aura. Nothing is overly sweet or sticky; the sweetness is perfectly balanced with the floral and fruity notes. In fact, the flowers are kept soft and creamy by the fruits. No suffocating gardenia, no overpowering violets, and no choking jasmine, but all three behave impeccably.

Musk later adds a warm sweetness, patchouli grounds the fragrance without giving it the scent of earth or mold or anything similar; it simply makes it a bit darker. I cannot perceive vetiver; Couture remains soft and creamy. It feels calming, balancing, harmonizing, and very elegant until the end.

The sillage is good, the fragrance is well noticeable in the surroundings and very pleasant. The longevity is weaker here than with the other two Badgley Mischkas, but that’s okay. I wouldn’t wear this scent casually during the day anyway; it’s too elegant and could come off as a bit overstated. The golden bottle, which is housed in a black, shiny box, adds to that!

I am proud and happy to own all three and will regularly enjoy them. It is very, very unfortunate that these wonderful fragrances have never been given the recognition they deserve.

Badgley Mischka - it’s not just beautiful fashion, but also three wonderful fragrances that, unlike many other perfumes, were worth every cent of their price.
