Does the Amber Room smell like this?
I have already mentioned the small perfumery Maison de Parfum Berry in Rouen, France, in a few comments. Although I haven't been there personally, I still find it fascinating that you can purchase their self-created fragrances both on-site and through their website. Indeed, they offer something highly exclusive.
And the perfumes are excellently made as well. Ambre 35 is no exception, although one would first think of amber because of the name - but surprise: there is none in it. This is about amber ... as the color of the bottle symbolizes.
However, the legendary Amber Room would certainly not smell like this; rather, it would be more like a kind of dark amber cathedral where the light could shine in honey-warm. And in that space, it would creak like in Ambre 35, filled with old wood coated in balsam, which has turned a deep brown over the centuries due to tons of resinous incense. At times, one might feel that the smoke is so thick that you can hardly see your hand in front of your face or barely get any air to breathe.
In the midst of it all, lovely notes in the form of red roses and red berries embrace as a contrast. The scent feels extremely concentrated, very dense, and anything but light-footed. The vanilla hardly has room to assert itself, at least not in the first few hours, but rather towards the end after what feels like an eternity, as the longevity is exorbitant.
In short: what is offered here is certainly not to be taken lightly. For those who enjoy an extremely resinous-smoky and heavily woody scent and like to showcase it olfactorily, Ambre 35 is certainly an option. The rest can marvel or embark on a search for the Amber Room.
