The Shine of Normandy
The small label Maison de Parfum Berry comes from Rouen, which is the capital of Normandy. I have never been there, but the fragrance is said to reflect the bright reflections and the special atmosphere of the sunrise on the coast.
What becomes clear in the first nanoseconds after spraying: Éblouissants Reflets is a truly delicate fresh-floral scent that knows how to enchant mainly with lily of the valley and cherry blossom. In between, there’s a minimal trace of ginger and cedar, all finely dabbed without ever being intrusive.
It fits quite well with the mild, humid climate of Normandy; however, I wonder, like many others, what cherry blossom and ginger are doing in here. They don’t grow in northern France, yet they give Éblouissants Reflets the right polish, although apples, cider, and Calvados would be more authentic.
The fragrance itself remains quite linear and relatively unsweetened, with a belief that one can perceive a slightly cool breeze brushed over the morning dew, promising a carefree day. Although the longevity is modest, the positive impression lingers in memory for a longer time.
One does wonder how much Éblouissants Reflets glides on the border of unisex fragrance. I think that young women or even young-at-heart ladies would feel most comfortable with it, but travelers to Normandy might see this quite differently in a gender-neutral way.
