Not as vintage as name suggests
It is definitely one of those which make you go Wow! instantly after the spray. Yes, the opening is stunning. You have too be in to this genre, of course.
"What else should I know before the purchase?" Well, keep in mind that after 10-30 minutes the uniqueness is gone and the composition starts to settle down.
Before it becomes what stays up to 10 hours on one's skin, it goes for a short stage of a pronounced churchy incense. You find it adjusted to the base notes volume with a blink of an eye.
"What are we left with?" Comforting, ambery dove, some incense, some sweetness balanced with spices. Overall, the scent appears to be a quiet down version of Harem Soiree by Arte Profumi.
The later one is more of full body, thick, deep, opulent, resinous heavy weight winter cracker. Winter is a key word, because what makes sense to try out the 1848! is the fact you can pull it off even in the summer.
I could never do that with Harem Soiree.
There's not much of an dusty attic / cellar vibe. Neither the animalic one (musk and leather are deeeep in a foreground). So don't be put off by the name.
I also like the bottle. It's cool, even more so if seen in person.
