A Day in the life...
.... that is a Beatles title from the late 60s. Melody and lyrics are grand, with a strangely contemplative aura infused with a good portion of English humor.
... A day in the live... Un Jour... a day like a fragrance.
Not a "loud thing".. not a giant with hit potential, yet subtly catchy beneath the surface.
Flowers and fruits are one thing, citrus and green leaves lie on top, peach, apricot... underneath, still on top, but under "very top". Almost banal, yet it catches your attention.
There is something behind or beneath it. Rightly so. Your own impression decides what is truly noteworthy.
The wide range of spring flowers, from intensely sweet, like jasmine, to herb-green, particularly lily of the valley, to enchantingly powdery, like lilac and hyacinth.
It is pleasantly surprising to notice this at first glance.
But there should be something behind, beside, or beneath it. Perhaps deeper truths? Substrates that shy away from the bright light, perhaps..
Could be.... no, RIGHT. But not as obvious as expected.
Woods and balsam may play a role.... partly deep and round like sandalwood, partly rougher, lighter, and "sharper", like cedarwood. Green and earthy, grasses and moss....
sometimes quite perceptible. But is there something behind, beside, above, below?
"That's enough now"... I try to keep myself from digging too deep.
But I can't completely manage it.
I catch something that I have previously overlooked (smelled), or wanted to...
Something inherently "animalistic" that has had a right to exist since the beginning of life.
Something that is deep within us all, often denied.
The spirit of the times, many times...
And also that of a day in our lives, in which much happens, simultaneously, often unnoticed by us...
Until you read about it in the newspaper.....
