A fragrance with more than one surprise:
Thanks to a nice comment from a perfumer, I found the motivation and am now writing my first fragrance review.
Brooklyn is undoubtedly a fragrance that is highly fascinating and uniquely combines freshness and citrus notes with green tones and spiciness in equal measure. What makes it unique is a certain lightness that is noticeable in every fragrance note, without losing depth. This scent caught my attention more than once during our first encounter, and I wondered how it manages to evoke such fascination.
Here is my attempt at an explanation:
"From nothing to something", American Dream, New York City, Gin and Tonics. These associations are triggered by the fragrance, and I recognize them.
As soon as I spray the fragrance, I immediately notice the cypress and juniper, which remind me of a Gin Tonic. But just a few seconds later, the lime becomes increasingly prominent, adding a citrus-fresh note that creates a clear contrast to the green-bitter base note. This shift between the different notes constitutes the first surprise.
The second surprise occurs in the drydown: The Gin Tonic transforms into a Gin Fizz, with the juniper and lime remaining while mint joins in. The mint is distinctly noticeable and stays present for quite a while before it is gradually replaced by a modern interpretation of a fougère. This interpretation is extremely well done and fascinating in its development.
Finally, the fragrance reaches its surprising conclusion, characterized by incense and cedar. This gives the fragrance an unexpected but elegant note.
Unfortunately, the fragrance dissipates a bit too quickly, although with a longevity of about 6 hours, it is still reasonable considering the freshness and the price. However, I expected a bit more due to the green notes. The sillage is good and perceptible for a long time, but not extraordinary.
I find the bottle simple, but fitting.
In summary, Brooklyn, you are not only a great neighborhood but also a great fragrance. For me, it is the perfect choice for a spring feel-good scent that is suitable for all occasions.
