DHP was a huge disappointment. I was hyped on it after enjoying the other iris-y Homme flankers, namely Dior Homme Original (2011) Eau de Toilette and Dior Homme Intense (2011) and thought that it was going to be a leathery version of the same DNA. It ended up having a weird cheap cleaning solution/"fresh" smell that I wasn't expecting, and not much leather at all.
But here in Byredo Animalique of all places, the woody powdery iris and leather come together at last. It does take the DNA in a more feminine direction. There are more floral aspects and a light soft musky undertone that makes it seem more femme, but I think it is perfectly unisex and the right guy can absolutely pull this one off. I still prefer the scent of Dior Homme Original (2011) Eau de Toilette as a superior woody-iris scent (unfortunately the performance is subpar), but Animalique is a close second. Really nice well-balanced soft unisex scent.
