California Perfume Company

The California Perfume Company (CPC) was founded in 1886 by David H. McConnell.
In 1939, the company was renamed Avon Products Inc.

Even before its official name change, the company is said to have used the name "Avon" on various of its products as well as an initial "Avon" logo.

The name "Avon" refers to the River Avon, which flows through the English town of Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare, the alleged favorite writer of the company's founder.
