Contradiction Calvin Klein 1997 Eau de Parfum

The name of Contradiction is absolutely fitting, and the scent is quite different from all other Calvin Klein fragrances, aside from the fact that, like many others from this brand, it is suitable for both men and women. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but based on the fragrance pyramid, I anticipated a very floral and feminine scent. However, it is not that at all, at least not directly - which brings us back to the name, as the contradiction is indeed present here.

First of all, Contradiction is surprisingly subtle. I initially tested it alongside two other perfumes and could hardly perceive it. I also thought it wouldn't last, but both assumptions were incorrect. While the scent is more of a quiet presence (only close-to-skin sillage), there is nothing to complain about in terms of longevity, and since I was approached about it multiple times - "Excuse me? THAT is Calvin Klein?!" - I can only say that this fragrance has personality and is noticed, even if it doesn't come across as blunt and obvious like some other perfumes.

I find the indecisiveness between the feminine notes like lily of the valley, rose, and lilac and the more robust scent notes like eucalyptus and sandalwood very fascinating. Sometimes, Contradiction smells very businesslike (keyword: "office scent"), then again delicate and floral, and sometimes even spicy and more masculine (could there perhaps be leather in it?).

Indeed, there are reasons why this fragrance has been around for so many years.
