Ryu - The Forest Dragon

With a peppery thunderclap, it opens the eyes wide. Ryū, the forest dragon, lives at the other end of the night. It was probably the orange blossom falling through the shadow of the night that whispered to him about the appearance of the intruders. Enshrouded in legend and as a master over the forces of nature, he has lived since the dawn of time in the dark forest of Badashan. But for this gathering, for this final great challenge, he needs all his powers…

Like sharp pine needles
Ethereal sharp splendor
His eyes shine in the darkness of the night
Over steaming forest ground
Waving misty clouds of green
Smoldering fiery smoke
In the ancient wooden maw
Makes him magically shine
The legendary dragon
So that his leather-tanned scales
Offer him protection from the enemy troops

Ryū means dragon. In Japanese mythology, they are considered legendary, mystical creatures and are usually associated with qualities such as power, strength, determination, wisdom, and courage.

Jordi Fernández has excellently succeeded in bringing a Ryū to life through his olfactory interpretation. Right from the extremely dynamic opening, one feels the intensity of this fragrance. Primarily in green tones, an impressive peppery mélange leads the ride on the dragon at the beginning. One must surrender a bit to this play with the senses and allow this punch, as otherwise, the intensity could drive less experienced noses away. However, since we are dealing with a dragon, the theme is fully and consensually captured.

This intro is replaced or complemented by deep green and beautifully woody notes and facets. It creates the impression of floating above a woody, earthy forest floor. A mist that wafts over the skin, driven by the powerful peppery claws of the dragon. Everywhere it steams ethereally and green, one descends deeper and deeper into the forest and soon finds oneself hopelessly lost.

The interplay of the individual components is delicately balanced, and thus the dragon drives one ever forward, allowing one to precisely perceive the smoke emanating from the leathery scales, and the image of the forest dragon completes itself venerably. With his long claws, he has scratched countless trees, from which pure and soft resin flows, framing the scent wonderfully.

Drakon embodies for me one of the most beautiful and intense forest scents ever. For a long time, I have been captivated by the dragon through samples and decants. I could never completely escape his magic, which is why he now has a permanent place in my collection.

The intensity and especially the longevity are outstanding. Drakon is not an everyday scent; its complexity makes it too special for that. But at the right time in the right place, it is an absolute dream. Those who can be excited about such things will experience a true specialty with Drakon and will surely let themselves be carried away by the dragon through the forest here and there…

Beautiful poem and just as powerful a review from you again! I almost missed it, but thankfully I found it. The scent was too rich for me; it nearly overwhelmed me. It needs a strong man to wear it. But I'm happy for you about your collection growth!

I definitely belong to the less experienced noses who might consider a quick escape! However, your description is wonderful and inviting, yet I fear this forest is too deep, too smoky, and too ethereal for me! Great review!

Dear S., first of all, congratulations on acquiring your new treasure! :-) Your impressive and vividly concentrated description really captures the power and beauty of the fragrance. Thank you also for the information about the Ryūs that I wasn't familiar with. I think it's a lovely theme for a scent. In that context, the Oliver Stone quote would probably apply to me too ;-) Although I also appreciate ethereal forest scents. A beautifully written review with a lot of passion that I really enjoyed reading!
