Mysterious Myrrh with Smoky Notes, Licorice & Cocoa
The Confidential line from Carolina Herrera is quite underrated. It's one of those niche lines from this brand, like many other brands do as well. Of course, you get a lot here with these luxurious fragrances of high quality. Especially since this line is not heavily hyped and receives little attention, it is rightly available at an affordable price on the market. The MSRP is €250 for 100ml, which is not even excessively overpriced for such great quality. These fragrances are often available at 50% off the MSRP, which is really good. This line is quite large, and there should be something for everyone. I was convinced by this Gold Myrrh Absolute. As a myrrh fan, this is a fragrance I can absolutely recommend, as it offers a wonderful luxurious quality. Even though the weather isn’t currently suitable for heavier scents, this one works quite well throughout the year, as it is an evening fragrance that reveals its charm best in the dark. Moreover, this scent is not too heavy, even in terms of sillage. In terms of fragrance DNA and composition, it is very reminiscent of the incense scent "Encens Suave (Eau de Parfum) | Matière Première," but has spicier notes and slightly leans towards "Ivory Route | Xerjoff." Overall, however, it is really soft and simply very elegant, making it quite easy to wear.
The packaging and bottle are, as usual for this price range, very impressive. You get a great box that is quite voluminous. The bottle is an absolute stunner and looks fantastic in a collection. In reality, it is much more beautiful than in pictures with all those edges. The bottle is really extremely heavy and has a magnetic cap. The sprayer is also very, very soft and perfectly dosed and smooth. A clear 10/10 for that.
You get all the notes in the pyramid from the fragrance. It seems as if there is incense included as well. It could also come from the Namibian myrrh, but I am not an expert on exotic myrrh notes. It starts with immortelle, a spicy-floral note that is also known as curry herb. This note gives the fragrance a wonderful floral-spicy opening, and a hint of pepper comes through as well. At the beginning, notes of myrrh also emerge, which is indeed the main character here and remains active throughout the entire duration. Along with this, there is a smoky-spicy note that is very gentle and relatively easy to wear. Licorice and cocoa also come in early. Both notes are very noticeable, and you shouldn't have any problem liking this creation. Licorice gives the fragrance a great dark vibe, and cocoa is also a bit darker with a nice sweetness. Despite the cocoa and vanilla, the fragrance never becomes gourmand and is never really too sweet due to the smoky-resinous spice. Wood also comes through a bit over time, even though none is listed here. A lovely warm scent with subtle oriental desert vibes. As mentioned, a great fragrance that reveals its full charm in the dark. This scent is also 100% unisex.
The performance is very solid, and the sillage allows you to wear this for more upscale occasions. The longevity should exceed 8 hours, and the sillage is neither beast mode nor skin-close, thus falling into a very pleasant range that suits this type of fragrance well.
Overall, for me, a great year-round evening fragrance. It convinces me on all levels, and this bottle, including the sprayer, is simply dreamy.
