Woody-Spicy Scent with Citrus Bouquet
I have already received several samples of perfumes that are no longer produced.
This time it's Carrera.
At first, bergamot and anise are in a tussle until bergamot prevails because anise runs out of steam.
But shortly thereafter, sandalwood takes over, now it resembles Sandalwood.
One could say that Carrera is a sandalwood scent, at least in the heart and base notes.
In the 80s, it was one of many and probably not highly valued, but for today's shallow market, it would be an enrichment.
Since I am not a sandalwood fan and this theme has already been sufficiently covered, I waver between a rating of 60-70 percent.
Sillage is average, and longevity is also good average.
Since it is no longer available for purchase anyway, a buying recommendation is unnecessary. However, anyone looking to acquire a similar scent at a more affordable price should consider Sandalwood by Elizabeth Arden.
Bon Appétit.....

Carrera without the Rush
There was a time when the name "Carrera" was used for all sorts of things aimed at men, children, or even the child within a man. Carrera is Spanish and means race, and it entered the German language in the early 50s thanks to the Carrera Panamericana, a road car race through Mexico. Since Porsche achieved surprising successes with its actually inferior 550 Spyder, the folks from Zuffenhausen have called their most powerful model "Carrera" since those days.

In the early 60s, the success of the slot car racing track Carrera began, which was a must-have in many playrooms during the 70s. I was also a proud owner of a Carrera track 132 Universal with long straights and great banked curves. Here, you could really step on the gas or press the button.

Additionally, there was a Carrera Edition from Montblanc in yellow-black with fountain pens, ballpoint pens, pencils, a pen holder in the shape of a tire, and a pencil case. Of course, I had to have that back then, and if I still own some pieces from this series, they might fetch a pretty penny on eBay by now.

Had I been into fragrances at that time, I would have definitely acquired Carrera by Mülhens. But by 1988, the Carrera hype had long since faded. The manufacturer of the Carrera racing track filed for bankruptcy three years earlier (even though the brand exists again now), and at that time, Porsche only had the rather unsuccessful 924 as a Carrera model.

So it's no wonder that Mülhens' Carrera no longer played a role in the big perfume race. The scent starts, typical for the 80s, a bit clumsily with sweet amber, zesty lavender, and fine fruity notes. At times, it seems to me that I can detect a hint of pear. Later, it becomes soft and noble - as if alongside the exalted spices, a bit of sandalwood has also made its way into the mix. In this middle part, Carrera really revs up - just a likable sweet amber with woody-spicy accents. While all the components come across quite classically - they do so with great value. On the home stretch, Carrera becomes increasingly transparent with a delicate sweet-fresh note that, towards the end, briefly reminds me of Davidoff's Relax. It's actually quite unusual for a fragrance to start off heavier in composition and end up feeling lighter. And I wouldn't necessarily describe Carrera as sporty and fast with distinctly masculine attributes. Everything feels too settled and cozy for that. The longevity is almost at long-distance level - but not for racing, rather for leisurely country excursions.

In principle, it's a shame that we have a candidate in Carrera that is really interesting but remained overlooked due to its already outdated name and the associated drugstore image. The same scent in a sleeker bottle and with the name of a prestigious car brand would rake in some serious percentages here!
