Jockey Club Caswell-Massey 1840 Cologne

I have to thank the nice perfuma who sent me a sample of this one. It's a lovely classic cologne.
The opening is strong, for 10 to 30 minutes, which makes me a bit self conscious if I have to wear it in public. When it settles you are left with a clean powdery dry-down which is really pleasant.
The longevity is of a few hours, which is really good on me for a cologne concentration. I reapply it if I want to go with it through my day (which I do).

Granted, it's very classic and "mature". My grand father could have wear it. But for me it's a compliment, as he was a funny and eccentric dandy.

But hello... what you get here from an Eau de Cologne is truly astonishing!
a quite good longevity and good sillage that can definitely compete with some Eau de Parfums.

Jockey Club is a clear musk scent, but not like Jovan Musk, rather softer and not musty.
For me / my nose, Jockey Club is slightly sweet, powdery (due to the amber?) and something strongly reminds me at the beginning of the scent progression of Volo AZ 686 "that shoe polish note". (I assume it’s due to the water lily).

The longevity: lasts easily 8 hours on my skin! On fabric, a bit longer.
The sillage: the first 1 1/2 hours quite strong, then it goes "slowly" towards skin level.

For me, clearly a good scent that can easily keep up with some mainstream fragrances.
Friends of old school / vintage or barbershop scents will definitely enjoy this, and I can recommend Jockey Club to those who like musk.

This fragrance is so bizarrely funny that it is necessary to preface it with the story of Aunt Hannelore. Only then can one approach the essence of "Jockey Club." So ...
... throughout the year, we met only by chance, our lives were too different - but the families gathered together for birthdays. In the mid-eighties, in the condominium at Uncle Klaus and Aunt Hannelore's, first floor. These birthdays were always the same. A traveling circus always set up its tents in the parking lot across from the swimming pool, there were always (quite decently made) Wiener schnitzels with potato and field salad, Klaus and Hanne always reminisced about their stays in South Tyrol, and there was always schnapps brought back from there afterward. And little Tim always inspected the apartment decor framed by oak veneer furniture, including a spinning wheel, several heavy knight, rider, and animal figures made of a black, solid metal alloy, various Kufstein and Reschenpass memorabilia - and: a guest bathroom reserved for special occasions and therefore mostly neglected, where first encounters with parts of the Avon range took place, with turquoise cologne bottles and toilet seat covers, with "Tosca" and similar items. That’s where I also saw my first "Soap on the Rope."

Years later, when I ordered "Jockey Club," it was a description full of lies in a catalog for well-groomed men's products that made me curious: It spoke of forest and moss and spice, wood and legend. I could have been suspicious - JFK's frog-faced clean-freak attitude had always been unappealing to me, and I would scoff at membership in the "Jockey Club" - but the logo was nice, reminiscent of the "Orange" guitar amplifiers from the seventies, and the straight pouring bottle also seemed pleasant to me. But upon opening, the stuffy bourgeoisie that had turned into a scent hit me in the face: powder, synthetic vanilla and majoram notes, the dusty "Soap on the Rope" from back then, and the far too rarely flushed pipes in the apartment building. Lifelessly clean. I don’t like it.
