Much wood, little cherry, but very BLACK
This new flanker made me so curious that I took the plunge and bought it blind. But I am disappointed! This in advance.
To get to the bottom of the scent, I will break down the name: "Aromatics Black Cherry" only vaguely suggests cherry in the top note; much more noticeable than the fruit cherry is the cardamom. So - "Cherry" doesn't really fit for me. It could also be plum... there is something fruity, but no natural representation.
"Aromatics" - the cult fragrance, here as a flanker. Does it have anything in common with the classic Chant perfume? No. Not at all.
Chant's creation was Rose + Patchouli - these two cannot be found in "Aromatics Black Cherry." Is the scent as multifaceted as the old one? No. It is not one-dimensional, but it becomes very chashmeran-heavy over time, which is an aspect that bothers me. Is it "aromatic"? Yes, if you consider the spices: pepper, cardamom. There are also flowers present: an artificial tuberose, jasmine.
"Black": how "dark" is the scent? Very dark! I couldn't wear it in summer. It has those woody undertones that many Aoudh perfumes radiate. Surely there is an "aromachemical" component that has Aoudh facets, and the Chashmeran comes through strongly. Together with the spices, it’s a combo that works especially well in autumn/winter.
Clinique has not outdone itself with this new creation. Moreover, the name leads to a false trail: I do not smell "Cherry" as in "La petite robe noire." This supposedly black cherry in "Black Cherry" is unsweetened and not a "treat" for those who love gourmand perfumes... black chocolate, for example, or a dessert with dark cherries is not what you get here, but only a briefly flashing fruity top note flanked by strong spices from the oriental kitchen, along with a lot of dark, artificial wood. Ultimately, it is a very synthetic scent, which is certainly wearable in the cold season, but does not delight me at all like the old "Aromatics Elixir." However, "Black Cherry" smells somewhat better to me than the predecessor flanker "In Black," which I do not like at all. Among the Aromatics flankers so far, "In White" has pleased me the most.
"Aromatics Black Cherry" is interesting for all those who want to try a good dose of cardamom mixed with an artificial floral-fruity-and-wood arrangement. "Black Cherry" is not an alternative to the old "Aromatics." By the way, definitely "unisex"!
Update August 2017:
The longevity is outstanding.
Having owned this scent for 10 months now, I have to rate it even lower than originally. I can hardly wear it; it is overwhelming and far too pseudo-oudh-like. Unfortunately, it is indeed a misstep.
By the way, the scent is now also available online at Notino. Well. There it costs only 55 euros and not 89 pounds as in London at Harrods.

Cashmeran...uh, I think I can take it off my wishlist now. I didn't know it was so hard to find...

Sounds good nonetheless, and since it's unisex, it might be worth a try sometime.

Thanks for your comment. I've been so curious about this scent for so long, but in Germany, it seems impossible to get my hands on it. Unless you order an outrageously expensive sample on eBay :(
