The Moonlight Sonata

I take off my shoes. My feet gently touch the forest floor. Dewdrops are already forming on the velvety moss cushions, but the smooth, round stones release the warmth of the day only slowly. The trees also breathe warmth against the coolness of the night. I pause, not wanting to tear myself away from this feeling just yet. My path leads down to the moor lake, which hides at the edge of the clearing. Whispering, small waves lap at the shore. A late blackbird sings its bittersweet song. Suddenly, I am again a little girl with braids and striped socks. Even in my parents' garden, the song of the blackbird accompanies me as I swing in the twilight on the swing, waiting for my mother to call me into the house, where golden light glimmers behind the windows.
The water of the lake welcomes me with an embrace. Gentle and warm at the surface. Only when I dive deeper does a pleasantly cool shiver wash over me. I let myself drift. The water carries me. Moonlight shimmers on my skin. How long do I linger like this? I do not know. Minutes, hours, an eternity … What is time anyway?
Back on the shore, I stretch out on the round stones. I enjoy their warmth on my cool skin. Water droplets bead from my hair and sink into the soft moss.

Now it has happened: I have become something I never wanted to be. Namely, a woman with a bunker bottle. But what could I have done? The need was great. After all, this is about Lune de Givre, or Frosted Moon, which was renamed and then discontinued. Rest in peace, my gentle friend and faithful companion! This fragrance was originally composed by perfumer Delphine Thierry for her own use until Margaret Mangan and Julian Checkley managed to extract the formula of this ethereal beauty for their newly founded perfume label Cloon Keen.
Frosted Moon is a delicate, transparent iris scent that starts with earthy carrot and the herbaceous-green notes of angelica and galbanum. Despite this initial coolness and freshness, bright woods, musk, and vetiver provide warmth, and so the silvery shimmering iris is surrounded by enticing contrasts, with one or the other gaining the upper hand at times. Frosted Moon speaks in a soft voice, yet to those who wish to listen, it tells a wonderful story of closeness and distance, of coolness and warmth. As if one were reaching out for the moon on a full moon night when it appears so close.
These gentle, melancholic tones struck by Frosted Moon remind me of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata." And the feeling of sinking into oneself, surrounded by a delicate green iris veil, conjures the image of an incredibly beautiful living sculpture in Heligan's Lost Gardens, which unfortunately bears the rather prosaic name "Mud Maid."

Frosted Moon is an almost meditative fragrance that reconnects me with myself when everyday life overwhelms me. I can think of no occasion to which it would not be suitable, no situation in which it could seem inappropriate. By the way, I cannot complain about a lack of longevity: although the angelica in the top note weakens quite soon, I can still smell the beautiful iris-galbanum-musk combination in my clothing even a day later.
A perfume with great signature scent potential, and I am glad that I can be extravagant with the little remainder in my bottle because a full hundred milliliters await me.

That's beautifully described. There wasn't a nighttime moor lake where I grew up, but in my imagination, it comes to life right away. However, in the evening twilight, lost in thought on the swing, listening to the blackbird, you could often find me as a child. Thank you for the lovely image; it fits the scent perfectly. It touched me just the same.

Love the ‘woman with a bunker bottle’ description. But why? It’s not discontinued- in fact they now offer the massive 200ml refills too!

What a evocative comment! It also brought back childhood memories for me... I’m sure I would love the scent; you can't go wrong with contemplative iris and galbanum fragrances!

You've written a lovely composition for this scent, a fragrance like a forest lake, a scent like moonlight. Distance and closeness. Now all that’s left is to add it to my wish list. Thank you.

Exactly, what is time anyway? The vivid description and what happened linger as text forever (well, as long as the servers here aren't shut down). I admire the vivid storytelling and can sense your great enthusiasm for the scent. The final fragrance description was the cherry on top of the cake. Nice!

Oh dear... every time I wear it, I think of you and our double order. How sweet of you to just order it for me because you knew it had stolen my heart. You’ve described it so beautifully, and my feelings are completely reflected in your words. Let’s enjoy it until the last drop!

The opening story is so vivid that you feel like you can sense the moss under your feet and that the moonlit water is carrying you! The scent sounds quite appealing too, especially in connection with the wonderfully conveyed atmosphere! I really like your review!

You couldn't have honored this scent more beautifully!
Yes, the fragrance is grounding on one hand, but on the other, it opens doors to realms beyond the everyday hustle... it cools the mind that's overheated from the usual madness.
And, hey: Can you imagine how happy I am with several bunker bottles of my favorites? ;-)

Ah, what a beautifully described and illustrated fragrance!
And it evokes memories of Cornwall's wonderful landscape parks...
And oh: If only all the unplanned metamorphoses of our self-images would turn us 'only' into (never planned) people with bunker-flacon baggage... :)

Touching fragrance prose that confidently keeps several kilometers away from the kitsch border. You've made the scent very refined and, or rather, exquisite. Twisted trophy with braid!

A fantastic comment! I actually had Beethoven in my ear while reading your beautiful story about the nighttime bath, whom I admire above all. And the Moonlight Sonata is one of my favorite pieces by him. It's a shame the fragrance has been discontinued. I would have loved to try it now.

A particularly lovely comment. Ah, those were the days when I was still a girl with braids and striped socks. In the elementary school theater, in my sister's flower skirt. And if I ever end up in the wrong skirt, I just embrace it with a cow barn loud laugh :)

So you're an "Iris woman"!
The name "Frosted Moon" makes me feel cold, and I'm already freezing as it is.
A few notes of the "Moonlight Sonata" in the glass - just for you!

I had a serenade association with my statement about the fragrance too... I guess that's what it does to us, makes the strings resonate...
