Misleading Name, Great Scent, Attractive Price ... the Surprise of the Year!

Out of a bit of boredom, I added this fragrance to an Amazon order. I was curious about vetiver, which - as far as I can tell - only serves as a base here and, despite the name "Vetiver Forte," does not take on a dominant role. Or am I mistaken in the end? I even Googled "Orpur" and suspected it to be a chemical gimmick. On the contrary: It is a designation developed by Tom Ford, which is supposed to indicate a documented origin and special purity of essential oils. So far, so good!

I expected something completely different than what ultimately arrived at my nose. What I thought would be earthy-spicy-herbaceous turned out to be sweet-balsamic-warm ... But what can I say? I was anyway looking for an optimal EDT for the upcoming cold season, and unexpectedly, I found myself applying this to my skin.

As a fan of "Paco Rabanne Ultraviolet Man" (one of my favorite winter and going-out scents), I immediately thought that this and VF play in a similar league regarding their basic tendencies, seasons, and occasions. So I immediately set out to compare them. And what can I say? I find VF even better, as it becomes more natural after the top notes fade, which I attribute to the herbs and woods used, giving the enticing sweetness just the right amount of "resistance." In contrast to Ultraviolet with its rather linear scent progression, the spicy-earthy notes take stronger control in VF after 1-2 hours.

After sparking lively discussions with my blog on the topic of "synthetics," I must say at this point: I couldn't care less that "Haitian Vetiver Orpur" encounters synthetic Cashmeran and other components that I can't quite identify! ;-) For me, VF is simply a great scent that I enjoy even as someone who generally prefers fresher fragrances. For now, I am quite enthusiastic and feel a bit like someone who has just indulged in one of the best desserts ever in an unassuming and simple backyard establishment, and at a pretty reasonable price.

What is true about the name, by the way, is the "Forte," as VF has quite a strong sillage and longevity.

In Italy, VF is a hit; it’s well-received by both ladies and gentlemen. Here, hardly anyone knows it, which is definitely a shame because it’s actually a great scent that deserves more attention, don’t you think? ;-)
