Scent of a Decent Summer
After my workout, I often quickly stop by Rossmann, which is in the same shopping center. There, I like to test the little fragrances that the store has to offer, in good Parfumo style. One day, the product range from Comptoir Cologne was available, which unfortunately was quickly taken away.... I searched high and low and was lucky enough to snag 2 bottles as clearance items.
For me, the reason for the attachment to the scent was distance. I was on the other side of Germany for 2 months for work, and so Mandarine Sanguine became the scent of my summer 2017.
Mandarine Sanguine starts, who would have thought, citrusy-(slightly)sweet. It could rather be pink grapefruit: the sweetness doesn't even come close to mandarin levels; the fruit is hardly bitter and a bit zesty. Very early on, the "aromatic notes" are present as well. I’ve pondered long enough, and I believe I can detect small amounts of labdanum, coriander, green cardamom, and maybe even nutmeg. The base noticeably consists of more amber, wood is at most present in the late drydown, and then also really nothing too herbal.
The longevity and sillage are significantly stronger than expected! The "blood mandarin" lasts a long time for a summer scent.
As much as uncomplicated fragrances smell good, too much can be left out through abstraction and minimalism. I like it, but the scent lacks (for me) that certain something :s
