The Smell Of A Brisk Walk Along The Coast
There are perfumes in the real life that we would like to close in a bottle so we can breathe them in when we need to feel better, to escape, to evoke some memory. And there is no point in denying it when we talk about memories. In most cases, we are talking about holidays. And how can we not think, then, of what we all call “the smell of the sea”? Sea water, salt, sand, seaweed, and moss are often used to recreate the smell of the sea. First of all, it is a smell that can take on different nuances. For many it is the smell of warm sand mixed with that of sunscreen and maybe even coconut, so a sweet, enveloping and warm smell. For many others, however, the smell of the sea is that unmistakable mix of salt, seaweed, iodine, what remains on clothes after a day spent at the beach even in the middle of winter.
Aqua Salis opens with a strong aromatic, balsamic component, which closely resembles the nuances of anise and eucalyptus. I can’t be precise, but it is certainly a mentholated, camphoraceous accord. A salty and marine background supports this balsamic accord and slowly expands until it almost dominates the opening. There is no doubt that the fragrance belongs to the trend of these years, which sees the salt note as the protagonist. The result is a dry, fresh, and marine aroma on the nose. There is probably a hint of citrus, lemon zest, but it is certainly not the dominant accord of the opening. Rather, it is something that gives the sensation of green, sunny, and dry.
Little by little the initial effervescence fades, and slightly floral notes emerge from the heart, always on a salty background. It is a delicate floral, always fresh and dewy, which is very close to the essence of the rose, light like rose water and not opulent like oriental roses. I was saying, a fresh and salty rose, like rose petals floating on the waves of the sea.
In the base I feel the woody and talc accords, courtesy of cedar wood and coumarins. By its nature, the essence always remains focused on the marine and salty accords, and the presence of vanilla or tonka never brings the perfume into the gourmand area. On the contrary, this powdery and sweetish nuance creates a contrast that softens the saltier aspect of the perfume. I do not exclude the presence of white musk, used to prolong longevity, without making the fragrance too soapy. The trail is all about salty, musky, amber, slightly woody and herbal.
Incredible. You could find Aqua Salis for less than €10 during the sales period, but its yield and its beauty make it a precious perfume. It remains on the skin for several hours, and on clothes, you can smell it even after days. Its ideal season is summer, at any time of day or night. I consider it a perfume that belongs to the same group as the Reminiscence Rem series, Acqua di Sale, or any other trendy perfume focused on salty notes.
I wrote these impressions based on a bottle I have owned since August 2024.
