Ambush Dana 1955

How do I describe a beauty? A beauty of the kind that we no longer encounter in today's perfume collections. A beauty that aligns much more with Lauren Bacall, Ava Gardner, or Gina Lolobrigida than with Rihanna, Penelope Cruz, or Eva Longoria.

Ambush is a beauty. Full of elegance and pure, sensual femininity, gentle yet very noticeable.

It begins with an almost bitter lavender-bergamot note that almost put me off, as it came across quite harsh.

But as soon as the fragrance warms on the skin, Ambush forms an extremely feminine, sensual aura around the wearer, defined by soft blooms like heliotrope, carnation, and ylang-ylang, but above all by the wonderfully fragrant night jasmine. This enchanting accord lasts a good eight hours, accompanied by a very fine, supporting sweetness. Only then does it begin to slowly fade away.

I cannot perceive a proper base. Ambush simply becomes weaker, and even after 12 - 14 hours, the beautiful floral note can still be directly sensed on the skin, supported by a delicate musk note.

This vintage Ambush gives me a feeling of luxury and glamour.

Even the bottle (the bottle pictured above is the 1997 version) - see image below - is beautiful in my opinion. It’s just a pity that vintage bottles usually do not have sprayers but are pouring bottles instead.

I cannot yet say how the 1997 successor smells. Perhaps I can track it down somewhere, just to have the comparison and to know what Dana has done with this truly enchanting fragrance for today’s market.
