Closer to Heaven…!
And now you stand here in awe…!
And you kneel down and kiss the red-dusty ground you stand on. And you honor an entire continent, peoples, and cultures. You honor the wildest animals, the greatness and the vastness. And in this one timeless-endless moment, you kiss Africa. Behind you stand the Moran. The warriors of the Maasai bow their heads in reverence. Their faces so full of dusty-hot pride and their song so bitter-green. And so they join in the Adumu. The dance of the young Morani warriors. And so they begin to jump in place. So high as if they want to kiss the sky. All the tribal women beautifully painted in cinnamon-spicy hues. Adorned with the oldest, inherited beads. Colorful, shimmering, and full of splendor. But in their faces, the smoky-sweet pain of history and suffering. And so they cry tears. And they became crystals. Woven into precious-shimmering and protective garments. And so behold the Maasai! How with every jump of the Adumu they come a little closer to the sky. They dance to the heavens. So high, so full of fervor and infinitely, unbroken pride…!

Conclusion
Crystal d'Afrique
How bitter it begins. And how beautiful it ends!
Here you can smell the bitter-dry savannah. The sour-green herbaceousness of geraniums and sensitive-green mimosas. You can feel the heat of the steppes where the hot wind mingles with sharp ginger and dark-spicy cinnamon. Actually, it shouldn’t even be here. But it is! And it is the most beautiful I have ever smelled. And I have smelled many! Here, the cheetahs gently lay down to sleep in the lap when the night slowly blinds in smoky-green incense. And if you smell closely, you can catch the dust that the Maasai stir up with every jump of their dance. It smells of freedom stretching proudly towards the sky.
How beautifully pure can pride smell…!
Unique!

I had actually said everything in my statement back then. Actually? There are very few perfumes that have managed to move me to tears. This one has done it. Right into my heart and completely pure and disturbingly raw. The depth of the notes and the ingredients is overwhelming. Here is Africa in its unfiltered version. Everything, but really everything is born in Africa. And it dies slowly on the skin full of beauty, greatness, and pride over hours. I may not be a Maasai,…but I feel a whole lot closer to heaven with it. It is a great honor for me to wear this perfume. Rarely has it been so! And thus, I also kiss the African earth with gratitude. Or perhaps better said,…the SKY!

And so my dear friends,…do me a favor!
Take all those who can no longer jump so high by the hand. And jump with them as high as you can for them. Just like the old Maasai do. Their eyes may be dull, blind, and old. But if you look closely, you will be closer to the sky than ever before. And so look closely…!

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas. The dearest wishes, my friends. Stay healthy and kiss life with every jump. And here it doesn’t matter how high like with the Maasai. Here, the will and gratitude count. Life is a pearl…!
With the fondest thoughts…

Shimmering Light, Gravitational Beauty - the Crystal from Africa
Many perfumes have a story, but few tell a story. Crystal d’Afrique takes the inclined tester along on this journey, on an olfactory trip through Africa.

A Journey Without Words
Madagascan ginger welcomes the scent traveler with full force and accompanies him deep into the night, throughout the entire fragrance pyramid. At the outset, some citrus aspects are perceptible, presumably bergamot. A storm like a desert storm of flowers from various regions of Africa follows closely behind. The floral abundance of Africa is overwhelming and very well intertwined; I can hardly distinguish individual notes. A light sweetness is likely brought by the mimosa, and I can perceive neroli, which probably also accounts for the slightly "green" facet. Is that jasmine, which unusually sings in the background and does not play the lead role? These first impressions of a continent are so diverse, but it does not stop there; the traveler is bombarded with further impressions.
The base notes reveal themselves in the background of the floral storm, initially blurred and restrained, then they penetrate it with a gradual increase as the storm subsides: the spicy woodiness of the mighty cedar of the Atlas Mountains rises from the base with gentle, balsamic-warm myrrh and increasingly permeates the scent. Nature, history, and culture are one in this continent. Alluring Bourbon vanilla mixes subtly beneath, and for a while, the extremely dominant resinous-aromatic incense allows the traveler to immerse himself in the millennia-old history of this continent with its significant empires of times past, letting him experience the deeply sacred aspects of African tradition and history that have shaped this continent to this day.
These awe-inspiring impressions are maintained by the sensual drydown for many hours: exquisite Bourbon vanilla surrounds itself with the gifts of the three kings, incense and myrrh, framed by a hint of ginger - this feels like the true "Angelique Encens," or perhaps better yet - "Encens Vanille Ange."

Tactile Beauty - the Bottle
The hand-friendly bottle is made of heavy crystal and was crafted by hand. Its shape is meant to evoke the sand dunes of African deserts. The round cap is made of Moroccan marble, polished by hand. The bottle stands in a finger-jointed frame made of very well-crafted Padouk wood, in which a padded round recess in the lid ensures a stable stand without damaging the marble cap or even the engraving plate, which, like the engraving plate on the frame, is adorned with 24-karat gold plating.

The Feminine Soul of Africa
Crystal d’Afrique is not just a journey to Africa. The fragrance was created by a French designer with North African roots. For Crystal d’Afrique, David Thibaud-Bourahla and Clémentine Humeau exclusively use sustainably processed natural ingredients, as far as possible sourced from Africa itself. The quality of the ingredients consistently characterizes the fragrance, and yet it possesses the refinement of a French perfume as an African natural fragrance.
The symbol of the Thibaud-Bourahla house is an ancient symbol of the Berbers, representing femininity, patience, and harmony, as women held great significance in the society of this people in pre-Islamic times. Thus, I see this fragrance more suited to a woman. Crystal d’Afrique is an exceptional scent; it allows a glimpse into the deeply feminine soul of a continent. Before my inner eye appears the image of a continent with incredibly many facets, fascinating history, cultural significance, awe-inspiring landscapes, and exotic beauty.
Just as one cannot grasp true Africa as a "package tourist" on the side, this fragrance, with all its facets, does not reveal itself to the inclined tester "just like that," but requires concentration and imagination, as well as repeated "traveling" with the African crystal, to avoid being left in awe or overwhelmed by the quality and intensity of the ingredients and their interweaving, or even deterred by the immense impressions of the African crystal.

Look at the Maasai!
Green, bitter their song.
Spicy, cinnamon, beautifully painted.
Smoky, sweet the eternal pain.
And so they danced to the sky!

Myrrh and frankincense dominate the scent. The floral notes are only faintly detectable. Ginger adds a subtle touch of spice. Lovely.

Reminds me a bit of a delicious curry dish. In an old, established Indian restaurant with cozy, vintage seating areas.

Precious sacrificial offering of myrrh and frankincense resin, sprinkled with sparkling ginger, on gently smoldering, vanilla-sweet woods. Archaic.

Amber: rich, sweet, floral, citrusy, a bit exotic. Could also be by A. Neuffer or Hiram Green, mainly reminds me of VOYAGE 2019.
