Modern Classic
A classic neroli cologne with a twist. First traditional and wonderfully soft with a bright, natural lemon top note. Then the twist: a slightly soapy-powdery iris note that adds a clear modernity and something special. A purity that goes beyond that of usual colognes. Reminiscent of Prada. Super clean. In construction, it is similar to Givenchy's 'Gentlemen Cologne' from the same year, which also plays with the triad of citrus - iris - musk (for musk, see below). Here in niche quality. And through neroli, it remains a touch more classic. Additionally, it is more understated. In striking distance to Penhaligon’s 'The Impudent Cousin Matthew' from the same year, 2019. But back to Givenchy. This 001 lion carries the typically casual-elegant DNA of its men's fragrances. Not quite as pronounced, but very similar. Therefore, I perceive it as slightly "masculine." Furthermore, there is a velvetiness and roundness that I primarily know from Van Cleef & Arpels' Collection Extraordinaire line. Because over time, a moderate, softly creamy, and subtly spicy, high-quality musk adds an incredibly clean comfort that lingers long. A bright, dry wood nuance provides a barely noticeable "edge." Everything is extremely well balanced. Worth a look for all lovers of classic colognes. Here beautifully and effortlessly transformed into modernity. A creamy-spicy citrus aroma designed for quiet enjoyment.
With heartfelt thanks to Cubiculum for the testing opportunity.
