A Masterpiece by a Master Hand Under a False Name

Dior is, for me, a label that creates excellent perfumes in the mid-price segment. Unfortunately, none of them have really impressed me so far. I used to wear "Higher" very much about 13 years ago when I was 22. Mind you, at 22. The "Energy," well. Dior Homme Intense is a durability and sillage monster; however, it is far too powdery and sweet for me. I do have "Fahrenheit," but I don't use it. For whatever reason?! "Eau Sauvage" is a masterpiece with unfortunately far too weak performance, and I don't want to comment on Johnny's "Sauvage." These are the reasons why I haven't engaged with Dior much lately.

Until last week when I stumbled upon this perfume here on Parfumo for some reason. First thought: “Eau Sauvage with performance! It can't be bad.” A first glance at the fragrance pyramid: “No, it probably won't be like that!” I read a few comments about it: “Yes, a completely different scent, but with a top rating.” So off I went to the nearest perfumery to test it.

And what can I say? I discovered a masterpiece. The beginning is briefly fresh-citrusy, and one might think that you catch this fresh DNA that makes the regular "Eau Sauvage" so unmistakable. But shortly after, the sweetness and spiciness of myrrh come in and overshadow the freshness. Not screaming, but very pleasant. This remains the case for a very long time. After about an hour, the vetiver reveals itself. And it smells exactly like Guerlain's Vetiver. Exactly the same. Very nice. This combination of the sweet-spicy myrrh and the sweet-woody vetiver creates a perfect symbiosis. The scent is very pleasant, noble, and envelops you with a warm grace and elegance that I have not experienced before. Magnificent!

The longevity is fine for a perfume, and the sillage is only filling the room at the beginning. This is not really a point of criticism. It simply fits and makes this creation, in short, coherent.

One can confidently say that this is truly a scent for a gentleman.

My only point of criticism is the name of this perfume. It has almost nothing in common with Dior's masterpiece. Therefore, the naming does not make sense to me. But that doesn't seem to be Dior's strength anyway.

Well written. What percentage would you give it?
