From the Chamber of Versailles
Un Air de Paris was created back in 1886, when the Dorin company had already been supplying the court of Versailles for over a hundred years, since 1780 (I was still very young back then, like a chick!).
And as one can easily gather from the fragrance, the residents of Versailles knew a thing or two about powdering.
I have smelled and enjoyed many powdery scents, as I am a big fan of powder and all things powdery, but this fragrance surpasses them all by far.
It reminds me of a powder compact that I once found in an old handbag of my grandmother's, from Coty, around the 1940s. The powder smelled exactly like this.
Slightly dusty, a bit sweet, somewhat cough-inducing, naturally powdery and rosy, and above all - like a beautiful woman.
I don't know why, but as a child, I thought all beautiful women smelled like this powder. I have encountered this or at least a very similar scent a few times in my life, and each time the image of a woman with a grand gown, dark curly updo, and lots of pale makeup, but with a small red cherry mouth appeared before my mind's eye.
Certainly not everyone's cup of tea nowadays, but unbeatable retro.
