A Gift
*Edit* After some time of repeated wearing now in winter, I must add a note:
It is almost magical how this fragrance, through its ethereal radiance, can actually make the temperature feel like it is rising. I am not sure if it could be the sharpness and warmth of cardamom and ginger that cause this. When I perceive the sillage, I feel it as warmer. Such a strong physical reaction, at least in a positive sense, has never occurred to me with a fragrance before. This raises my rating by another 0.5. I don't get the feeling of having a true perfume masterpiece under my nose, but rather a magical potion. Highly fascinating!
Zanzibar is already something very special for me because a lot of planning and research from my wife went into this wonderful birthday gift.
I didn't know the manufacturer at all when I held the packaging in my hand and was somewhat negatively surprised by it. The box has a nice print, but it seems rather low-quality. In the next step, the somewhat cheap-looking bottle stands out, the spray unit is comparable to that of a TZ.
But I wasn't deterred, knowing that my wife has no inclination towards the ordinary or even low-quality. So let’s get to the protagonist;
The fragrance!
The fragrance pyramid already looks promising and reveals its belonging to the spicy-woody oriental category. Once on the skin, you notice something unusual. The scent smells somewhat unlike a perfume and has a strong ethereal effect. One might think at first of a fragrance oil. Here, the 100% natural ingredients of the scent show themselves. With a concentration of aromatic components of 22%, it is not exactly lacking in that department!
Immediately, the spices spread out. Particularly, cinnamon is noticeable at the top, but coffee, tobacco, and leather also come through. Anyone who thinks that the fragrance lacks power due to its naturalness is very mistaken. At the beginning, the sillage is considerable! After a while, cardamom (which I personally love) and ginger come through beautifully in the heart note. The woody notes also play a role in the background.
As time goes on, the fragrance becomes calmer and softer. The spices lose their sharpness. In the base, cinnamon again takes center stage, which forms a nice connection with the sandalwood and remains quite soft.
I don't want to evaluate the longevity just yet, as I haven't tested it extensively enough. However, in the two tests on the skin, the longevity was quite good.
I would recommend everyone to try this fragrance from the Norwegian artist house DoubleYou. It is a beautiful project, but one should be sure that they want to pay the rather high price for it (which is quite justified considering the
ingredients!). The fragrance is more suitable for special occasions; due to its ethereal radiance, it simply isn't always appropriate.
I am glad to have it and will happily wear it during special moments again and again.
