A Superb Spicy Fragrance With An Equally Superb Bottle...
The Eau de Parfum version of Idol de Lubin is a truly outstanding effort from the parfumier Giacobetti. The scent opens with a gorgeous semi-sweet rum accord along with a strong saffron note mixed with hints of orange. The scent quickly turns its attention to a very mild mannered, but outstanding ebony and incense heart before drying down to a sublime amber and sandalwood base with just a touch of sweetness that may be the best part of the scent. Idole de Lubin edp is not a sillage monster by any means and its longevity is average to maybe even a hair below average. What it *is,* is a stunning concoction that is entirely unisex, and would smell incredible on just about anyone. Also of note is the bottle housing the juice is one of the most artistically beautiful containers I have seen to date, and the scent inside is well deserving of it. Absolute must buy IMO, for lovers of spicy incense scents (and just about everyone else, for that matter). 4.5 stars out of 5.

swipe left for Beelz
We've got a date with Old Scratch and we're gonna meet them wearing Idole de Lubin and nothing else. This fragrance is marketed for men which is a bunch of malarkey because this woodsy, darkly spiced scent with notes of saffron, rum, teak wood, and sugarcane would be devastating on anyone who possesses a human body. And speaking of possessing human bodies, our bae Beelz is due to stop by at midnight and this infernal gourmand redolent of unholy smoke, syrupy booze, and leather-clad sin, will make them feel right at home.

A lubin masterpiece!
This truly is a masterpiece. I smell rum, orange and saffron are prominent in the opening. This then dries down incense-leathery base. It smells exactly as if Gucci Envy & Yves Rocher's Hoggar had a love child! gathering the best elements from both and blending a truly exquisite perfume. I feel this is slightly more on the masculine side. It probably deserves the £105 price tag as it is well-crafted and has decent longevity and sillage to boot. The bottle design is rather good and definitely has a place amongst a collection of creeds or bonds. 4.5/5

Great spicy incense blend
Lubin Parfums Idole de Lubin Eau de Parfum was released in 2011 and is the successor to the initial 2005 EDT release, which I’m not familiar with, and the EDP is so apparently (from its opening) a dark, spicy, resinous scent with a good amount of heady spicy kick but not so much to overshadow the resins. It feels mainly like a mix of the dominant frankincense, spices (cumin, pepper, saffron), sandalwood, and leather. It’s spicy while only being slightly smoky, and really only has the faintest twinges of sweetness, even with listed notes of rum and sugarcane, which may contribute to its balance but do not seem overtly there in their own right. The cumin makes it lean ever so slightly animalic, versus, say, Armani Prive Bois d’Encens, which is also woodier, and Idole on the whole does seem a little bit wilder while still have an incense center.

Overall, it’s a great fragrance, and performs very. It is priced at $180 for 100ml, very reasonably under $2/ml, and is sold at select boutiques like Perfumology, from whom I obtained a sample. I had smelled this before in store but did not sample it thoroughly and it’s such an easy winner, especially for colder weather.

Expensive water
I wanted to try Idole because of its claimed similarity (and superiority) to Bentley for Men Intense. I tried and reviewed the Bentley last June. While it seemed to have a good idea behind it, it didn't really impress me.

The opening of Idole did impress me however. It started boozy, spicy, dark and very rich with great depth. As it dried down, Idole started to pull in or contract upon itself, losing the depth and turning more towards a woody, slightly smoking and spicy scent that was still pretty smooth. Unfortunately, it fell completely on its face due to very poor projection, especially for the price Idole commands. About 30 minutes after application, I could only get very faint whiffs if I moved around or if I put nose to skin. Idole is a very intimate scent that hangs close to the skin. Surprisingly, the longevity was OK but not super. It was still detectable for me until about the 6.5 to 7 hour mark. Overall, very disappointing. If the perfumer could have kept the opening going, now that would have been something.
