A "real" perfume…..
Durer is one of those magnificent vintage fragrances for which my heart would be quite inclined to pay the exorbitant eBay prices that are sometimes called for ……

Durer is a "real" perfume……and by "real" I mean deep, full-bodied, intoxicating, sensual, excellently composed, and of extraordinary sophistication…….not to mention it is made with all sorts of ingredients that one could potentially die from nowadays (according to IFRA) ;-P…….

Although it is fundamentally a floral chypre, there is still a distinctly noticeable leather nuance that gives the fragrance both substance and depth, while simultaneously protecting it from "blümerant" excesses…..essentially, the floral aspect is hardly noticeable…..

Everything in Durer tends to be dark…..the flowers, the barely perceptible fruity notes, the moss, the deep-dark green galbanum, and last but not least the almost smoky-balsamic and wonderfully "real-woody" base……

Despite the aldehydes, there is nothing clean-soapy to be detected here…..on the contrary……DURER exudes a sultry-lascivious and velvety-animalic aura that still comes across as polished and exceptionally noble……

Terra mentions TABAC BLOND as a comparison……and I can certainly understand that……Durer smells different, but creates a strikingly similar scent atmosphere……

If this fragrance were still available for regular purchase, I wouldn't hesitate for a second……

The Forgotten Perfume
I owe this wonderful and mysterious scent to a very dear perfumist.
After it arrived today and I applied it, thinking "Ahhhh, ohhhh," I dug through the "www" but ultimately only found success with the help of the donor.
Quote (I will only use one section); A forgotten perfume, an exceptional scent. Launched by an obscure brand in the 70's called Durer, this floral chypre creation is signed by Michel Hy, a perfumer of outstanding talent and refinement from Roure (later Givaudan Roure). He is the author of some of the most amazing creations from the 60's and 70's, and certainly the secret name behind a revolutionary masterpiece. (End of quote)
The forgotten perfume and an exceptional scent. Released by an unknown brand.
I’ll put together a pyramid (if anyone knows something different or additional, please correct me!)
Top notes: Aldehydes, Hyacinths, Rose
Heart notes: Iris, Rose, Rose leaf, and a lot of green (Vetiver?)
Base: Oakmoss, wood, a hint of smoke, and velvet
Yes, a floral chypre resting on roses and rose leaves. But there are not only many roses at play. Aldehydes knock at the beginning and pass on to cool-dusty hyacinths and the green scent of geraniums and geranium leaves. Crushed geranium leaves between the fingers produce a scent of minty lettuce (just so you can better imagine it).
I hardly perceive lily and jasmine, but I bet on iris and also on vetiver, because Durer is unbeatable in its heart of green dustiness.
The base is woody, velvety, creamy, and the dream of dreams.
Not a blockbuster, not a bang, yet still expressive. A forgotten scent with a lot of character!

The Disappeared Perfume
Thanks to the generosity of Lilienfeld, I am in possession of a truly large decant of this unique fragrance. Thank you very much, dear Lilienfeld, for your gift.

My first attempt with Durer and me went rather poorly. Did I have a bad day? Prejudices against Chypre? I don't know, but initially, I perceived an animalic note that spoiled my enjoyment of the test. However, I gave Durer another chance and tested it again today. This time, I can hardly contain my astonishment and enthusiasm.

This is not a Chypre, my dear, this is a Schüpre! Because only with Schüpres can I, and especially with this one, because it has ROSES.

Durer is strongly rose-focused, the rose runs like a red thread through the entire fragrance journey. However, Durer desires distance. Directly on the skin, it exudes a quite pronounced animalic note, and only from a certain distance is the rose present, but then in all its splendor and absolutely not shy. It is supported by strong accords, but it certainly does not let itself be overshadowed.

Durer is the scent of a diva, present, opulent, and hardly sweet; it very elegantly places its wearer in the spotlight. At any event where a woman wears this fragrance, she is sure to stand out and distinctly separate herself from the mass of today's scents. This fragrance calls for an evening gown - and this should also show a certain opulence. The simple little black dress won't do here!

The rose displays a certain beautiful soapiness and reminds me of Sinan, but it is darker, more mysterious, and more impressive than any rose scent of today. Another masterpiece from a great perfumer that is now lost or can only be found online at horrendous prices and in extremely small quantities.

I am very happy and grateful that I not only got to know this masterpiece but that it also adorns my collection as a decant.

great class, unfortunately lost
Medusa00 has already commented excellently on this forgotten masterpiece, there is nothing to add.

This fragrance was one of my mother's absolute favorites for years, and it was very rarely available in Germany; the former perfumery Thomas in Aachen was the only known source in NRW.

I found the following composition in my H&R fragrance atlas from the 80s:

Top notes: Peach, Raspberry, Bergamot, Aldehydes, Green note
Heart notes: Jasmine, Clove, Rose, Iris, Ylang-Ylang, Hyacinth
Base notes: Patchouli, Amber, Vetiver, Leather, Moss, Civet, Incense

The fragrance is described there as fruity, aldehydic, spicy, floral, balsamic, sweet, powdery.

A small remnant in the 240ml splash that I hold in my hands, although now tipped, still hints at the great class of this fragrance..... :-)
I would see it as an elegant light version of the grandiose 7e Sens by Rykiel. By the way, the house Durer, like Weil and Revillon, originally started as a fur manufacturing company.

Indolic scent with depth
Anyone who knows "old fragrances" knows what I mean.
In the past, long before 2010, the "year of the IFRA guidelines for reformulating fragrances," perfumes were produced that contained fragrance materials like "Indocholin" (dark violet), "rectified birch tar" (boiled sap from birch, "leather" aroma), "Nitromoschus" (smoky dark musk aroma), and many others that are now "TABOO." Or can only be used in minimal amounts.
And "Durer" is one such "good old fragrance spirit" where the "old materials" still frolic.
This results in such perfumes smelling "deep," "round," and particularly "full."
A wonderful blend of aldehydes, green galbanum, and flowers sets the stage, only to be followed by aromatic dark roses, iris, and blue hyacinth, all of which smell as if a large bouquet is right in front of me on the table.
And everything is underpinned by almost smoky balsamic wood notes and deeply "inky" mosses.
This fragrance composition has only a slight sweetness.
Above all, it is somewhat "crunchy" (which is particularly attractive) and almost bitter.
Just "INDOLIC" and "Nitromoschus"-like..... I can't describe it any other way.
