Water, shaving..
As described in my commentary on Maravilla's "Fine Eau de Cologne", the traditional company L.A. Schmitt, as far as it does not produce for discounters under foreign names, produces under three own brands: Maravilla, Bernoth and Elasco. When I ordered the (very nice) Maravilla-Colognes I also ordered a bottle of this aftershave lotion with.

It is sold exclusively in the massive 200 ml pouring bottle, which with a little skill can also be used as a murder weapon. The cap is not wide, made of shiny silver plastic and cheap like on the picture here, but narrow, as a grooved black plastic and even cheaper. The label is Trash As Trash Can and the colour of the product is a disgusting, dirty grey-green
Three associations came to me during the presentation: (1) This "After Shave" was used by Winston Smith in the dystopia "1984"; in a set with rusty razor blades, which were not available due to the general shortage; (2) It comes from the museum of everyday products of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic.

Association (3 ) was the strongest, because for all the blatant lack of complacency of the product, it radiates a cast-iron solidity, a certain atomic bomb resistance and the promise, or at least the hope, that it was selected by official product testers, whose standards are simple-functional quality and a low price, in a public tender. In other words: a Bundeswehr product, like the grey handkerchiefs, the protein cookies wrapped in silver foil (affectionately known as "Panzerplatten") or the indestructible blue cleat running shoes. And because at that time, when I got to know all these products, not only an abbreviation but also a word reversal mania was raging in the Bundeswehr, in the manner of: "machine gun, light" (also the form of increase: "rifle, machine, light" was conceivable), "cartridges, practice", "cover, head", so it immediately forced itself upon me: This is a "water, shave-".

During use, the optical shock was renewed: a bitter, pungent and at the same time sour smell, against which every vinegar is the embodiment of a balsamic-opulent decadence of scents, causes a hardly suppressable gag reflex. However, when I ran excitedly to Frau von Spee to present this absurdity to her and asked with as neutral a face as possible: "How do you like my new fragrance", the answer was surprisingly "Not bad at all". And indeed, in the minute from the moment of application to the foreign test, the hellish breath of the top note had already evaporated and had changed into a strangely antipodal, in fact not bad at all, almost flattering, semi-sweet vanilla-creamy base. Which, however, before one can deal with it more closely, has also evaporated again.

This is by far the most bizarre product I have ever commented on here. Useful hints to answer one of the following questions:

(a) Why is this product manufactured ?
(b) Where is it sold? And above all:
(c) Who buys it, and why?
