A Soothing Gourmand

The scent that unfolds from the very first moment is not at all what one might expect from a fragrance named "Myrrh." It is a gourmand—inspired, true to its theme, by "Halwa," a traditional confection served during celebrations and hospitality in Oman.

Although I have never tasted this sweet, the opening notes evoke the distinct, nutty aroma of roasted almonds—sweetened with sugar—and sesame. There is a harmonious accord of vanilla and sesame—a pairing frequently seen in modern perfumery—that lends a comforting warmth. Saffron dances through the composition, lending an elegant grace to the gourmand notes.

Accompanying this gourmand profile is the vibrant, floral splendor of rose and jasmine. It is a gourmand, yet it remains light and radiant rather than heavy.

Why, then, does this fragrance feel so nostalgic to me? Perhaps it calls to mind Dior’s *Hypnotic Poison*—a scent tied to my own memories, which also featured a prominent almond note. There is a similar approach to how the gourmand elements are integrated here.

Upon the initial application, it—surprisingly—evoked the impression I had when first encountering the reformulated version of Givenchy’s *L’Interdit*, though the actual scent profiles are quite different. As time passes, however, the fragrance reveals that delicate, elegant harmony so characteristic of ELLA K—a truly comforting experience.

Delving deeper, one discovers the noble presence of myrrh, with a base quality reminiscent of patchouli.

While I rarely wear gourmand fragrances, this is one I find myself wanting to wear during the autumn and winter months. Despite its vibrant, distinct gourmand character, it offers a sense of serenity—enveloping the wearer in a warm, reassuring embrace. Rather than relying on a first impression from a scent strip, I recommend trying this fragrance directly on your skin.
