This review may be a little confusing. My thoughts on this perfume are also a little confusing!
I don't like the smell of honey. I don't know what possessed me to try Bee in Mecca one day - I was looking to try either Vanilla Milk or Sweet instead, but when I tried them on paper I didn't love them. Bee on paper was a blast of honey... but not syrupy overly sweet sticky honey. More like honeycomb, beeswax is definitely very present. It was intriguing enough that I tried it on my skin, and I'm so glad I did.
The beeswax honeycomb is strong at the start, but I also got the slight boozy rum overtone and an interesting, homey comforting note that I now believe to be the bran. After 10 minutes or so, the beautiful sweet vanilla came through, and from there it slowly morphed into a vanilla cocoa butter that stuck close to the skin, but had be smelling my wrist all day.
Interestingly, I also kept the paper I sprayed it on and that stuck with the honeycomb blast for many hours after the scent on my skin had evolved and never got to the lovely skin scent that it was on me.
I picked up the 10ml the next week, because the scent was fascinating to me and I kept thinking about it. Since then I've layered it with Fresh Cream (a lovely mug of warm milk with honey), Chai Epice (a beautiful honeyed spiced Rooibos, as another reviewer mentioned), and also worn it on its own plenty. It is completely different from anything else in my collection and I am glad to have it.
On hot days, this scent makes me feel like I'm lazing in the grass at a picnic without a care in the world. On colder days, it is a cozy warm mug of your favourite drink. I think this is equally a summer and winter scent and feels totally different in each.
Longevity is good for me, about 6 hours and silage is minimal after the first hour.
