The True Heart of Black Pepper
Until yesterday, I only knew the brand vaguely, having read about it somewhere. My wife and I are in Livorno, Tuscany this week. Yesterday we were in Siena and visited the cathedral among other things. For souvenirs, we went to the local "Bookshop." My wife briefly went to the restroom while I waited. In the anteroom to the restroom, right next to the Bookshop, there were shelves with bottles and candles, etc. I thought, huh? I went over, and indeed, there were also perfumes. Cuore di Pepe Nero sounded interesting; by the way, all the perfumes were from Erbario Toscano. A spray on the left sleeve of my softshell jacket and boom, wow. What a bombshell! Local time 1:31 PM. Held it under my nose a second time, OK, it strongly reminded me of Terre d'Hermes, but somehow more intense in freshness, pepperiness, and sweet spiciness. I was still waiting for my wife, and my sleeve wouldn’t let me go. Even my own scent from yesterday, Jaguar Classic Gold, which I had applied 4 hours earlier with 5 sprays, was no longer noticeable to me. All around me was only the "(Cuore) Heart of Black Pepper." I bought a double pack, 30ml shaving gel and 10ml EdP of the bombshell here for €16.50, mind you, in the cathedral. At times, I walked ahead of my wife on the way out of the cathedral, and my wife asked me at least twice how much I had sprayed on, and I laughed and said, just once, really. I couldn't believe it myself. My Jaguar was nowhere to be found; only the heart of black pepper remained. It became evening, still boom. The next morning around 7:30 AM, before breakfast, I went to my jacket and: this can't be, as fresh as if just sprayed. After 18 hours! What can I say, until today around 3 PM, it was still fully present on my sleeve. Almost 26 hours. I just ordered 50ml because the sleeve still smells of it, although not with boom, but still impressive that it does at all. Compliments to the perfumers. No one can deny the similarity to TdH, but I prefer this one solely for its longevity, also because it is fresher, creamy-spicy, and simply more intensely present. I find everything a few nuances better than in TdH. Caution, it can be overdosed with just 2 sprays. Hermes only has the Eau Intense Vetiver, and Erbario Toscano has snatched the Intense from Terre here. This is how a TdH Intense could have smelled and polarized. The name says it all, the "Heart of Black Pepper."
P.S.: The scent is referred to here as unisex, but it is not. However, that shouldn't deter bold women. Here is the introduction to the fragrance description from Erbario Toscano translated from Italian: “Cuore di Pepe Nero” is the result of an intense search for the perfect scent for men.
Addition: Unfortunately, reformulated versions are already in circulation. The 10ml bottle I bought does not have the power of the tester there.
