A pity

For a long time, i.e. over 2 decades, I have been observing the rapidly declining quality of this once so beautiful fragrance. Yes, for me it has slipped faster and faster into the inferior in recent years - and by that I don't mean tilted! I simply noticed that even with a newly bought bottle, the scent on the skin, which once shone so beautifully and for so long, faded very quickly, even though I always stored it according to the instructions.

When I came to Parfumo in May, the focus was clearly on all the new fragrances there were still to discover and "Pleasures" was somewhat pushed into the background. Nevertheless I bought him again together with other new perfumes - just because he had already so worn off again (although just 1 year old) and I wanted to try it again. I was of the opinion, if from now on also more variety, I would never exclude him completely from the circle of my darlings!

And if I found him somehow "funny", maybe he had suffered somehow after all? So, as I said, buy it again and dispose of the old one. This fragrance, acquired 3 months ago, I have today subjected to a close examination. Because I suddenly felt like it again, especially since the thermometer doesn't climb that high anymore.

What a disappointment. Pale, degenerated to a little 0815 - water, the whole magic had already evaporated after 2 hours so far that even burying the nose in my arm hardly brought a noteworthy fragrance experience. What a disappointment.

After this experience - or rather, after not experiencing it at all - my longest lasting love of fragrance has finally died for me. The bottle is still ¾ full and the perfume is definitely not tilted, at least that's not how it smells. But what Pleasures once was is simply no longer in existence - unfortunately. Even though my nose may have become a bit more demanding today, this is definitely not what it used to be. "Too bad" is on the tombstone I want to put for him with this commi here. Because Pleasures has its best years behind it and is really no pleasure anymore. He's still flowering around a little meaningless and then - shoo! - disappeared. Each drugstore fragrance lasts longer.

Other commissioners from the last years already suggested that, but I didn't want to admit it. Who wants to look so closely when an old love dies.

Or, maybe I'm wrong too and had bad luck a few times in a row for unknown reasons. Therefore my question to the 170 Pleasures owners of the community: are you similar? That wouldn't change anything, but shared suffering...

That sounds dramatic now, but who better than you to understand that a fragrance that you have worn for many years and that has accompanied you through thick and thin can be like a door to old and almost forgotten memories. A door that has now closed forever. ?

Well. At least the bottle was by far the ugliest in my collection.

My absolute favorite fragrance and will be. I hope. But what I noticed is that it spoils quickly after purchasing. After a year maybe it becomes more sour. I smelled it at the store recently and it didn’t smell the same at all. I am still hoping it was a really old bottle of it. If they reformulated it, that would be so sad.

So once again a classic that was reformulated to death and can be written off. See Cashmir, Joop Le Bain, Beautiful, Poison and what they are all called. What a shame. For my part, I draw the consequences and either buy the vintage version or, if available, a good dupe. At least I don't have to be angry. One would be almost gaga to throw money earned sourly into the greedy gullet for these travesties of once great scents.

Sigh. You are right. I have just put on a vintage Pleasures and straightaway noticed a huge difference in that and my newest bottle from 2017. No pretence they are even the same scent. I admit the top notes in my vintage are almost gone, but even what is left marks an immediately noticable difference.

Gone is the rich, prism sparkle and the new feels like Lily of the Valley lemonade left outside for too long. Flat, top note heavy and reduced to sugar water.

Recently got a bottle of a very similar perfume, so I pulled out some pleasures. I liked the "Vintage" much better than the current version 2018, which I tested again and compared with the old one. It is not my scent, neither old nor new, but I agree with you - here has been reformulated and watered down. All Estee Lauders are changed. Also Beautiful and Youth Dew... really sad. I also find the bottle rather meaningless.

I don't know the old version consciously. My sister-in-law has an old bottle, 100ml almost empty, I suppose it's already a few years old. Two years ago I bought a bottle and I am quite disappointed by it. Scratchy and hard with a high nerve factor. Perhaps through the reformulation?

It's a pity if an old love of fragrance degenerates into a reform mania. In any case trophy for you!

Your comment speaks to me from the heart. I have worn Pleasure for many years and never imagined that this would change. It gets stinging and twisted with me. Nothing easy anymore. I also bought some new bottles, because I always thought it was tilted and then blamed it on the fact that my sense of smell or the skin chemistry might have changed. Good to know it's not just me. That is why I mourn with you ..

He doesn't do pleasure anymore, he just splashes. I was doing beautyful, but vice versa, he became more biting, more intrusive. It's not my first true love of fragrance anymore.

I disagree. Since 1996 my signature fragrance, have emptied several flacons. Personally, I find the flacon very noble. Pleasures holds like Pattex and when I wear it I always get great compliments. Only ordered supplies yesterday, I don't want to be without Pleasures. Forever love

I've had my bottle for several years now and the fragrance still lasts all day and shines. I even got a compliment for him the other day. I also find the bottle beautiful, so plainly elegant, with its matt-shimmering hand-cap. There's a lot uglier flacons there.
